Publisher: Zaffre Books

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Description:

Two strangers, a child, and a split second choice that will change everything . . .

Ellen was just trying to help a stranger. That was how it started: giving a few minutes respite to a flustered young mother sitting opposite her on the train. A few minutes holding her baby while the mother makes an urgent call. The weight of the child in her arms making Ellen’s heart ache for what she can never have.

Five minutes pass.

Ten.

The train pulls into a station and Ellen is stunned to see the mother hurrying away down the platform, without looking back. Leaving her baby behind. Ellen is about to raise the alarm when she discovers a note in the baby’s bag, three desperate lines scrawled hastily on a piece of paper:

Please protect Mia

Don’t trust the police

Don’t trust anyone

Why would a mother abandon her child to a stranger? Ellen is about to discover that the baby in her arms might hold the key to an unspeakable crime. And doing the right thing might just cost her everything . . .

Review:

I want to thank Tracy Fenton for inviting me on this tour and Zaffre books for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my third T.M.Logan book and having enjoyed those novels I was very excited to see what this one had to offer.

Trust Me may be just over four hundred pages long, but with its quick pace and short chapters it didn’t feel that long at all.

The story follows Ellen, a woman in her forties who’s just received the diagnosis that she won’t be able to have children. On the train home she’s asked to look after baby Mia while her mum makes an urgent call. Time passes, but her mum doesn’t come back. Looking for clues to the woman’s disappearance it leads Ellen down a dangerous path but she knows one thing, she must protect Mia at all costs.

Ellen was an excellent character with hidden depths. At first you think she’s just an average person who I felt more than a bit sorry for, but it turns out she’s a bit of a badass. Her determination and stubbornness to let things go really drew me on through the novel.

There’s a good deal of intrigue and tension running through the story, and you’re really not sure who to trust. Unfortunately, the author tried so hard to deceive that I felt it made the real bad guy a bit obvious.

Trust Me is a quick and addictive read, perfect to lose yourself in for a few hours.

One of these women is willing to sacrifice years of friendship and destroy her family. But which one? As Kate closes in on the truth in the stifling Mediterranean heat, she realises too late that the stakes are far higher than she ever imagined.

Because someone in the villa is prepared to kill to keep their secret hidden.

The Holiday Tour Poster

Review:

So I really enjoyed TM Logan’s last book 29 Seconds (you can read my review here) so I jumped at the chance to read The Holiday.

The story opens with the discovery of a body at the bottom of a cliff, we don’t know who or why the body ended up there but it painted a really visceral and realistic picture and set the tension for the whole book.

We go back in time and follow Kate and her friends Rowan, Izzy and Jennifer with their families as they holiday in a Villa for their fortieth birthdays. But all is not right in paradise as Kate finds some messages on her husband Mark’s phone and believes he’s having an affair. Tensions simmer beneath the surface boiling over and resulting in the death of one of the people in the mansion.

The Holiday was a sun soaked thriller that for me was the perfect summer read. It’s full so full of tension that it had me on edge just waiting for the killer reveal.

It’s told mainly from Kate’s first person perspective, which we really get inside her head and I felt really connected to her. There even a scene where she’s standing over her son sleeping, with this irrational need to check he’s still breathing which I found myself going ‘oh my god, I do that sometimes with my own son!’

My only minor issue was I felt like the author kept me waiting for a little too long, not getting to the really juicy stuff until about the last quarter of the novel. Although I can safely say I did not guess the end of this book by a long shot!

Overall The Holiday is a slow burn tension packed thriller that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

He offers Sarah a way to solve a desperate situation with her intolerable boss. A once-in-a-lifetime deal that will make all her problems disappear.

No consequences. No comeback. No chance of being found out.

All it takes is a 29 second phone call.

BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A NAME TO GIVE. DON’T THEY?

Review:

Alan Lovelock, is a philanthropist, academic and one of the nations favourite historians with his own BBC 2 programme, at least that’s what the world sees. To Sarah his a sexual predator, constantly threatening her job and belittling her. Then she is a chance witness to an attempted child abduction which she manages to stop. In return the child’s father offers her a solution to the problem with her boss, he’ll make him disappear. What will Sarah decide.

All it takes is 29 seconds..

I’ve heard so many good things about TM Logan’s previous novel, Lies that when this popped up on NetGalley I though I had to give it a go, I’m sorry it took me so long to get round to reading it!

I can’t describe how much I loved this novel! It really hooks you from the beginning with lots of shocks and surprises which kept me turning those pages. Also the moral dilemma, if you could get rid of someone who was making your life a misery would you?

I really rooted for Sarah. She’s a hard working, accomplished academic who has to support two children after her feckless husband runs off and an absolute nightmare of a boss. Any woman who had to deal with someone like Lovelock everyday deserves a bloody medal!

Alan Lovelock made me physically nauseous. If I could have slapped him senseless I would have! Since the MeToo movement a lot of similar stories to Sarah’s have come out and a lot of people say why not just leave your job find a new one? This book shows how these vultures operate preying on women, essentially trapping them in these jobs, refusing to give them references or bad mouthing them to anyone who would listen.

I did lose my patience, a little, about half way through where Sarah is battling with her conscience, umming and ahhing, deciding whether she should take the deal or not and I was just like will you decide already!

Also certain aspects of the novel were a little unbelievable and relied a little heavily on coincidence but the fast pace and believable characters make you forget that.

29 seconds is a gripping psychological thriller and I can’t wait to read what this author comes up with next.
