Title: It’s not PMS it’s you by Rich Amooi

Date Published: 31st October 2019

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

Ruth “Ruthless” Harper is on the verge of becoming managing partner at her all-male consulting firm and she won’t let anything stand in her way. That includes men, relationships, and that dreaded F word, FEELINGS—distractions she eliminated long ago.

After the worst day ever (a near-death experience and a public wedgie, for starters), Ruth realizes she doesn’t want to live and die alone. She puts together a business plan to find the perfect man and dives head first into the murky online dating pool. All she wants is a high-powered executive who understands how important her career is. If only it were that easy.

Problem is most men are intimidated by Ruth’s confidence and shocked by her bluntness. The exception being her landscape designer, Nick, whose cool demeanor and unsolicited dating advice are driving her nuts. He’s the antithesis of the business-oriented man Ruth envisions for herself, so why do all signs keep pointing back to him?

Review:

I read one of Rich Amooi books, There’s Something About A Cowboy, earlier this year and I just enjoyed it so much that when I saw the title for this one, I was just like ‘yes I must read that!’ After reading it’s not PMS it’s you, he is definitely one of my must read rom-com authors now.

Ruth is a workaholic who doesn’t care much about anything else but getting to the top and staying there. After a near death experience she decides she wants someone in her life. Her friend/assistant Dee helps her get back into the dating pool but why can’t she stop thinking about the handsome yet annoying gardener Nick?

It’s not PMS it’s you is full of dating disasters, lighthearted mayhem and plenty of aww moments that can’t help but make you smile even after you’ve finished it. After reading so much crime fiction it’s nice to read a book that is a little more light hearted.

What I liked about this story was the fact that our heroine is Ruth the workaholic, obsessed with her career, in my experience this is usually the male character who’s like this. Truthfully, at first I didn’t find Ruth all that likeable, a little bit up herself to be honest, but I warmed to her as the story went along.

It’s not PMS it’s you is a fun read that will give you all those warm fuzzy feelings that a good rom-com should!

#BlogTour Love, Look Away by Lisette Brodey @LisetteBrodey  @RRBookTours1 #LoveLookAway #RRBookTours #Romance #WomensFiction #Books

Hello lovelies, today I an excerpt from Love, Look Away by Lisette Brodey as part of the blog tour organised by Shannon at R&R Book Tours but first a little about the book:

Cover (10)

Title: Love, Look Away by Lisette Brodey

Publication Date: 10th October  2019

Genre: Romantic Comedy/ Women’s Fiction

Description:

Twenty-nine-year-old Sage Gordon has had it with love. When she’s not busy running her metaphysical gift shop in the old-money town of Swansea, New York, she’s content with the company of her dog and two cats.

Years ago, the boy she thought she’d marry some day disappeared in the middle of the night and was never heard from again. Haunted by the loss of Jimmy, she remains wary about love, until she is set up with a gorgeous NYC marketing executive. Love moves quickly, and she finds herself engaged — but if only he had betrayed her before she sent out the save-the-date cards.

Sage reverts to her former mindset: love, look away. Forever. Despite her best efforts, though, two completely different yet wonderful men enter her life. Still haunted by the past, can she let romance back into her life?

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Love, Look Away is set in the same fictional town (Swansea, NY) as my first romantic comedy, Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! This book is not, however, a sequel or a series. Love, Look Away is a stand-alone novel. Some readers will recognize several characters from Molly, including Molly herself, playing supporting roles.

And to readers who have never read Molly, but who may wish to do so, rest assured this novel does not give away the ending.

Excerpt:

Sage hurried back into the store, to see a gorgeous man with a huge head of tousled brown hair and a sexy two-day growth on his face. He was wearing a button-down blue-and-white checked cotton shirt, with three buttons undone and a pair of sunglasses hanging from the V neckline it created. His sleeves were rolled up to reveal three leather bracelets on his left wrist and a watch on the right. He wore khaki chino pants and ankle-high brown moccasins. And he had the biggest smile Sage had ever seen.

“G’day!” he said before she could greet him. He turned to see Godiva. “And g’day to you too.”

“You must be Freddie’s houseguest,” Godiva said. “From Australia.”

“Benton Bradley,” he said, taking care to make eye contact with both women before Rufus greeted him with enthusiasm. “G’day, fluffy mate. I reckon you and my Kelpie Matilda might enjoy a good pash.”

“Is that short for ‘passionate?’” Sage asked as she walked around the counter to greet him, her eyes bright and curious. “Hi, I’m Sage Gordon.”

As Rufus finally settled on his mat by the meditation cushion, Benton took both of her hands in his. “Indeed it is, Sage. You’re beautiful as.”

Unnerved, but not put off by the intimacy of the exchange, Sage delicately pulled away. “Benton, you said, right?”

“I did.” He winked. “You can call me Bent, but please, don’t call me crooked.”

Sage laughed, finding herself unable to avert her gaze.

He looked at Godiva. “You must be Freddie’s lady, Godiva Jones.”

“I am,” Godiva said as she walked over to shake his hand. “Or I will be,” she mumbled under her breath. “It’s lovely to meet you, Benton.” She winked at Sage. “I’m going into the office to finish those website updates we talked about.”

Sage’s eyes widened in surprise, then narrowed as if to playfully chastise Godiva. “Yeah, by all means, update my website. Seems like we’ve been talking about that incessantly … and nothing else.”

“Don’t I know it? Well, you know where to find me if the bells clang too much,” Godiva said. She walked behind the curtains with a satisfied smile.

Sage looked at Benton while his eyes scanned the store with great interest. “Quite a place you have here. I like it.” He looked at the sign above the counter. “What’s that all about?”

“Oh, the Private Property sign. It’s just there for decoration.”

“I don’t suppose you’d like to sell it. I’ve got a small farm, and that would be a welcome addition to my front gate.”

“It’s not for sale,” Sage said. “Besides, you can’t bring wood into Australia. They’d confiscate it at customs.”

“No wood for me then,” Benton said, laughing to himself.

Sage felt oddly tantalized by the stranger’s words.

“That sign looks a good deal older than you.”

“It is, I think. Or maybe it just ages faster. Besides, I use moisturizer twice a day. I don’t think the sign cares about self-preservation.”

“It could use a good oil rubdown,” Benton said, grinning. “I’d be happy to do that for you.”

#Review What Happens In France by Carol Wyer @carolewyer @canelo_co #NetGalley

Title: What Happens in France by Carol Wyer

Publisher: Canelo

Date Published: 28th January 2019

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

She stood and took her place in front of the camera… It was now or never”

Bryony Masters has been looking for her long-lost sister, Hannah, for years, but when their father has a stroke her search takes on new urgency. So when primetime game show, What Happens in France, puts a call-out for new contestants, Bryony spots the ultimate public platform to find her reality TV-obsessed sister, and finally reunite their family.

With the help of handsome teammate Lewis, it’s not long before she’s on a private jet heading for the stunning beauty of rural France. With a social media star dog, a high maintenance quiz host and a cast of truly unique characters, Bryony and Lewis have their work cut out for them to stay on the show and in the public eye.

Yet as the audience grows and the grand prize beckons they find that the search that brought them together may just fulfil more than one heart’s wish…

This heartwarming romantic comedy of friendship, family and laugh-out-loud adventures is perfect for fans of Kirsty Greenwood, Colleen Coleman and Marian Keyes.

Review:

Bryony Masters is desperate to find her older sister Hannah, who ran away at the age of sixteen, as her dad is seriously ill and doesn’t know how long he has left.

In a last ditch attempt to find her she auditions for a mysterious new game show What happens in…

Getting on the show is just the first step, she must try and win as many challenges as she can talk about the search for her sister. Can she do it with the help of her gorgeous teammate Lewis? Will she find her sister?

So this is actually my first Carol Wyer book. She’s been on my radar for a while now, I’ve been dying to read one of her books but like with a lot of authors I just haven’t had the time until now.

What happens in France is one of those stories that can make you laugh one minute, then tear up the next.

Bryony has had a tough old time of it. Bullied for a rare condition that made her lose control of her body, then almost dying in a car accident leaving her scarred and to top that off her beloved sister ran away which she blames herself for. I felt very sorry for her but she hasn’t let those hardships hold her back and has managed to go university, then has had a successful career as an English teacher.

There’s also some fabulous secondary characters, each one unique and memorable. There’s the dashing Lewis, her level headed best friend Melinda who encourages Bryony to come out of her shell and the pompous and frankly annoying Professor Potts.

There were a couple of issues, I felt like it took a little long to actually get to the game show part, which was my favourite bit of the novel. Also some of the conversations felt a little like info dumps and seemed a bit stilted and unnatural but of course that’s just my opinion.

Overall What happens in France is an uplifting and fun read that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster right until the very end.

I received an ARC copy of What happens in France via NetGalley, all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Title: Sorry Not Sorry by Sophie Ranald

Publisher: Bookouture

Date Published: 13th February 2018

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

A fabulously feel-good novel that will make you laugh till you cry and leave you living life to the full, margarita in hand!

Is this all there is? I scraped the last dregs of Caramel Chew Chew ice cream out of the bottom of the tub with my finger and licked it. It left a sticky smear on my phone’s screen when I typed into Google, “How to find love, sex and happiness.”

Charlotte has always been a good girl. But being good is getting boring…

She’s not just stuck in a rut – she’s buried in it up to her chin. The only company she has in bed is the back catalogue of Netflix and falling in love feels like the stuff of fairy tales. So when she stumbles across a popular podcast, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’, which challenges women to embrace their inner bad girl, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.

Old Charlotte would never ask for a stranger’s number, go on a blind date or buy lacy lingerie… But New Charlotte is waving goodbye to her comfort zone (with a side order of margaritas). And it turns out that good things happen to bad girls…

If you’re a fan of romantic comedies by Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk or Matt Dunn, and love TV shows like Girls, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, you won’t be able to put down this hilarious read!

Review:

I want to thank Noelle Holten for inviting me on this tour and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of the book via NetGalley.

Charlotte is feeling lost. Her best friend Maddy is moving out, getting married leaving her to cope with new flat mates and the fact she’s been single for a long time. One night she discovers a podcast Sorry Not Sorry which claims if you follow her tips and release your inner bad girl, you just might meet the man of your dreams…

Sorry Not Sorry is about when you’re stuck in a rut, take your life back and living it to the fullest, you never know what might happen!

It’s quite a quick and easy read with well rounded yet flawed characters and a good dose of drama.

I felt very sorry for Charlotte throughout the book. Trying to keep on top of her demanding job, help organise her friend’s wedding with constant put downs from Maddy’s sister in law to be, and biggest bitch in the world, Bianca and find the man of her dreams. Phew, it’s a bit of a whirlwind for her!

I have to be honest I didn’t quite laugh out loud at this, don’t get me wrong there were a few amusing scenes but I felt it was a little more serious than I would have liked. Also it took me a while to really connect with Charlotte because she is just so different from me but of course that’s just my opinion.

Overall Sorry Not Sorry is a fun, flirty read with plenty of mayhem, drama and some steamy moments too!

Review:

This is my first Rich Amooi book but it certainly won’t be my last! This really was a fun and food filled romcom with a good dose of humour.

There’s Something About A Cowboy came at the perfect time for me, as I’m suffering from a bit of winter fatigue, you know the days are short and dull and the nights are long and freezing, it’s easy to feel miserable but this book certainly cheered me up.

I’m going to admit something now, I’ve never read a book with a cowboy in it, ever! They’ve never really appealed to my but when I read the synopsis for this and saw the colourful and fun cover I had to read it (even though I’m meant to be taking a break from blog tours).

Amy is a great character, independent, clever and headstrong. Mix that with Luke who has the three Cs, charming, confident and cocky, well sparks are bound to fly!

Another thing I liked was Amy wasn’t the usual twenty to thirty year old heroine, she’s forty five and Luke is actually younger than her which made a change. My only real issue with the characters, was Luke seemed a bit too perfect, I would have liked to see him have a few more flaws.

It does follow the traditional romantic comedy storyline but Rich Amooi really makes it his own, with plenty of humour and a little swearing (shout out to the bull called Dip S**t, it made me giggle so much).

I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a great romantic comedy, perfect to banish those winter blues!

Search For Steven Full Banner

Review:

Sarah is living in London trapped in a dead end relationship with a firefighter named Jason, which should have ended a long time ago. Finally she gets the courage to end it but still worried she’ll end up dying alone like her Uncle Alan she flees back home to Whitsborough bay where her Auntie Kay offers her the opportunity of a lifetime, to take over her florist’s shop.

While packing she finds a tape from when she was eighteen, predicting what her life would be like for the next fifteen years. On it, it says she will meet a man named Steven and he’ll be the one. With that in mind she starts her hunt for Steven but her eye catches the handsome Nick but he’s not called Steven. Then her ex, the one who’d she’d always thought was the one comes back into her life suddenly, who should she pick or should she keep searching for Steven?

So this is the second story I’ve read by the lovely Jessica Redland, you can read my review of the first, Raving About Rhys (the prequel novella in the Whitsborough bay series), here.

I’m having real difficulty review into words because all I want to say is aww! (It gave me all the feels as the kids say) This book will make you laugh, cry and fall in love all within three hundred pages.

Not only does the writing flow well, making it fun and easy to read, the characters are fantastic too. I think we can all relate to Sarah in some way shape or form, from being trapped in a dead end relationship or that fear of dying alone or being a little socially awkward. Then we have the dishy Nick, who’s not just a pretty face but has burned in the past by love, who is absolutely adorable. Sarah’s two best friends add a little bit of conflict to the mix. Elise has been her best friend since primary school and married since she was young and then we have Clare who is the complete opposite, single and loving it and they both don’t get along! Also an honourable mention to Auntie Kay who gives Sarah her florists so she can live the dream turn her hobby into a job, I’m a little jealous to be honest, I’d love to do that myself!

I’ve seen a few reviews bemoaning that the storyline isn’t that original but seriously who doesn’t read a rom com and not wish for the main character to end up with the man of her dreams? As I said with her previous book, Jessica Redland takes a traditional romcom storyline and makes it her own, digging deeper and making her character really life like.

Even though this is set near to Christmas I’d say if you’re off on your holidays it’s a perfect read to take with you.

Rating: 4/5

About The Author:

Jessica had never considered writing as a career until a former manager kept telling her that her business reports read more like stories and she should write a book. She loved writing but had _DSF1336-2no plot ideas. Then something happened to her that prompted the premise for her debut novel, Searching for Steven. She put fingers to keyboard and soon realised she had a trilogy and a novella!

She lives on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast – the inspiration for the settings in her books – with her husband, daughter, cat, Sprocker Spaniel, and an ever-growing collection of collectible teddy bears. Although if the dog has her way, the collection will be reduced to a pile of stuffing and chewed limbs!

Jessica tries to balance her time – usually unsuccessfully – between being an HR tutor and writing.
