Review:

I want to thank Tracy Fenton for inviting me on this blog tour and Zaffre for providing me with a copy of The Country Village Winter Wedding in exchange for an honest review.

I’m not usually one for Christmas stories, I’m a bit bah humbug about the whole thing, but I loved The Country Village Summer Fete earlier this year, so I thought I’d give this book a go. I must be mellowing in my old age!

This is the third in the series, but it can be read as a standalone, but there are cameos from characters from the previous books to get the most out of this series.

I absolutely loved the pairing of Hazel and Jack. Both are carrying hurt from their past, Hazel from a cheat of a fiance and Jack from the death of his wife. It was sweet to watch their romance grow.

I have to say I have a bit of a soft spot for Jack. He cooks, cleans and is good with children, not to mention the fact he gave up his dreams to support his wife. He seems like the ideal man!

What I liked about this story, compared to the previous book, is there were a few more funny moments and there were a few scenes that made me snort with laughter.

The Country Village Winter Wedding is a sweet, Christmassy read that is the perfect blend of romance and feel good festive fun.

Take a trip back into Little Bramble…

Emma Patrick’s life is spiralling out of control. On the cusp of her 50th birthday, she suddenly realises that she doesn’t have many meaningful relationships in her life. She’s single, successful, living alone and thinks she’s loving it, but being so focussed on work and always online means she’s lost any real connection to people.

When Emma gets a call to say her ageing father is becoming increasingly confused, she decides that she should go back home to the countryside to spend some time with him. But returning to Little Bramble, the village she grew up in, after all these years is filled with complications of its own and people she’d rather avoid.

As Emma starts to settle into her childhood home, she finds herself loving village life – much to her surprise. When the opportunity to get involved in the running of the summer fete comes her way, before she knows it she’s embracing jam making, cake baking and bunting. And with romance brewing, Emma begins to doubt the glamorous life in London that she worked so hard to build . . .

Review:

I want to thank Tracy Fenton for inviting me on this tour and Zaffre for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Country Village Summer Fete follows the story of Emma Patrick, who returns to the village of Little Bramble to look after her elderly father when he gets ill. She left the village behind years ago for a successful career in London and coming back is full of bittersweet memories, especially when it comes to an old flame of hers.

This story was just a delightful read with plenty of sweet and heartwarming moments. I also enjoyed the fact it was a second chance for romance novel, focusing on older characters who are proud to be older, as they should be!

This is the second in the Little Bramble series but works perfectly well as a standalone. I only noticed when I went looking for more books by Cathy Lake and found the first book.

The characters are all so likable and sweet, I really enjoyed meeting them. I felt for Emma, she’s burnt out and a bit isolated when we first meet her, trying to keep up with her freelance editing work and running herself into the ground. On top of all that, she gets the dreaded news about her father who might have dementia then having to face up to her old heartbreak… I just wanted to give her a hug!

The Country Village Summer Fete is a combination of gentle humour and sweet romance that is the perfect summer read. I’m looking forward to more books from Cathy Lake!

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

Sun, sea and a sizzling romance… the perfect holiday, right? Wrong.

After a work party gone disastrously wrong, Samantha suddenly finds herself jobless and jilted. So when her sister invites Sam to stay at her little whitewashed farmhouse on a Greek island, Sam leaps at the chance to escape. Before long, she’s trundling up the cobbled driveway, almost colliding with sexy neighbour Spyros.

It isn’t all sunshine and smiles though. For every afternoon spent lounging by the pool, cocktail in hand, there is a morning spent adjusting to life with boisterous six-year-old nieces. When Spyros invites Sam to explore the island with him she’s tempted, but with his carefree, live-for-the-moment attitude, he couldn’t be more different to Sam with her five-year plans and high-maintenance hair. One drink, as friends, couldn’t hurt though? Over glasses of fruity Greek wine and honey-sweet baklava, can he – and the other charming locals – help city girl Sam to appreciate the simple pleasures the Greek life has to offer?

Just as Sam is considering ditching her designer gear for good though, she runs in to an old flame from home, and suddenly her London life comes hurtling back. Can her smooth-talking ex convince Sam to return to the concrete jungle, or will the lessons she’s learned from her Greek escape persuade her to stay?

A fun, fabulous and completely laugh-out-loud summer read perfect for fans of Carole Matthews, Jenny Colgan and Sophie Kinsella.

Review:

I want to thank Bookouture for providing me with a copy of Going Greek in exchange for an honest review.

Reading Going Greek honestly felt like a much needed summer holiday with a beautiful setting, delicious sounding food and I didn’t have to risk any sunburn!

Sam is a successful TV presenter until a scandal forces her to flee to her sister’s house in Rhodes. She thinks she’s just going to be there for a few weeks until everything blows over but the slower pace of life makes her think, is she really happy with her life?

The setting of Rhodes really made this novel, so well described I could almost picture it in my mind.

Sam was likable if a bit indecisive but there was an interesting cast of secondary characters, like hers sister Fiona and her twin girls, that made it a fun read.

I have to be honest compared to the setting and characters, the romance kind fell a little flat and didn’t give me as many fuzzy feelings as I would have liked but of course that’s just my opinion.

Going Greek is a light hearted read, perfect for a few hours of escapism.

About The Author:

Sue Roberts lives in Lancashire with her long term partner Derek and has had a lifelong love of writing, encouraged by winning a school writing competition at the age of 11.

She always assumed that ‘one day’ she would write a book, always having a busy household and a job, the idea remained firmly on the back burner but never forgotten.

The inspiration for her first novel came to her on a holiday to a Greek village. Her daughters had left home and suddenly the time had come to write that book!

Title: Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi

Date Published: 25th March 2021

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

A sweet romantic comedy set in beautiful Napa Valley!

Ivy needs a miracle and a drink—not necessarily in that order. With a struggling winery, the only hope of keeping her dream alive is snagging a gold medal at the annual wine competition. She’s determined to win, but she can do it without the help of Ted Jacobs, aka Mr. Know-it-All.

Ted wants to catch lightning in a bottle and create the world’s greatest wine, but he’s smart enough to know he can’t do it alone. When he heads to Napa to keep his grandma from ending up in jail (don’t ask), he meets Ivy. She’s as complex and intoxicating as his award-winning cabernet, but as stubborn as the mule next door when she stomps on his offer to collaborate.

Ted knows it’s risky to mix business with pleasure, but if Ivy would only listen, they might just be the toast of the town.

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and the author for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Whenever I hear Rich Amooi has a new book coming out, I know it’s going be a must read.  I’m so glad I read this when I did as March was a particularly hard month for me and Uncork My Love helped to take my mind off things.

Rich Amooi takes the trope of rivals to romance and makes it his own with his trademark humour and sweet romance.

Ted and Ivy are such delightful characters. Ivy is fierce and independent, not willing to take help from anybody, especially Ted. Then there’s too honest for his own good Ted, who seems to keep rubbing Ivy up the wrong way. I absolutely loved the verbal sparring between Ivy and Ted, which was so much fun to read.

A special shout out goes to meddling grandmothers Loretta and Sherry who may be in their seventies but it doesn’t stop them getting up to mischief, especially when it comes to their grandchildren!

There was some excellent research about wine making which shines through but also doesn’t get too info dumpy or technical. It even made me interested in wine and I don’t even drink the stuff!

Uncork my love is a pitch perfect romcom that will make you a little love drunk after reading it! (Had to get some sort of drinking pun in there!)

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and providing me with a copy of Flying Duo in exchange for an honest review.

I read the first in the series Flying Solo at the end of last year to prepare for Flying Duo but I needn’t have worried it works well as a standalone but as always to get the most out of the characters I recommend reading the first novel.

Rachel Watson has become somewhat infamous in India after suing the Guru Hridaya, the owner of the ashram she met dishy Canadian Seb, for tax evasion. Her work visa is rapidly expiring and does not know what the future is for her and Seb. He suggests a trip to Nepal to climb Mount Everest. What could go wrong?

Flying Duo came along at just the right time. I needed something light-hearted reading along with the added bonus of being set in a different country from my own, which made me feel like I was escaping from my house for a while (seriously sick of staring at the same walls right now).

What I liked about this story which I thought was missing from the first is that we get to know Seb a bit better and even meet his dad! I also enjoyed Rachel’s progression as a character, letting go of her life list and trying (still failing a little) to live in the moment.

The ending to the story was the perfect wrap up to Rachel and Seb’s story and gave me all the awws.

Flying Duo gave me all the fuzzy feelings and escapism I needed in a romcom novel.

#BookReview Flying Solo by Zoe May

Title: Flying Solo by Zoe May

Date Published: 6th July 2020

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

Rachel Watson has it all worked out. By 30, she’s ticked off most of the goals on her Life List. She’s a home owner, a partner at her law firm, she has a gorgeous boyfriend, lots of hobbies and loads of good friends. The only thing that’s missing is a ring on her finger.

According to her Life List, Rachel should be getting hitched around now, so when her boyfriend, Paul, plans a romantic date, Rachel’s pretty confident he’s going to propose. Except Paul has other ideas. He’s jetting off to India to find himself.

Distraught, Rachel doesn’t know what to do. Not one to easily admit defeat, she embarks on a mission to win him back.

Flying solo to India is definitely not part of Rachel’s plans, but could her trip teach her unexpected lessons about love, life and herself? Could she realise that perhaps her Life List wasn’t exactly what she wanted, after all?

Review:

So I know the second in this series, Flying Duo, is coming out next year and I signed up for the blog tour, then I remembered I had a copy of the first, so I thought I had better start there.

Rachel thinks her boyfriend Paul is going to propose, which would put her on track for her life list, but she gets a rude shock when he ups and dumps her, jetting off to India. With some gentle persuasion from her friend Priya, she goes after Paul and tries to win him back. What she doesn’t expect is that the trip will change her life by meeting the handsome Seb along the way.

Flying solo is a romance all about taking chances and finding yourself in the most unexpected places.

Rachel is ambitious, organised and focused which in the beginning of the novel made her a little unlikeable but as she starts to relax and we find out why she is the way she is, I really warmed up to her.

My only issue was with Seb, I felt he was a bit bland compared to Rachel. Maybe it was just because he seemed so chilled out or maybe he needed a little more development but as I said earlier, there’s a second novel coming out soon so I’m looking forward to getting to know his character better.

Flying Solo is a light-hearted romance and the perfect for a bit of escapism.

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and Rich Amooi for providing me with a copy of It’s Raining Men in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a huge fan of Rich Amooi’s rom coms so when I hear he has a new one coming out, I know I have to read it.

It’s Raining Men is a sweet romance all about hope and taking chances.

Faith has shut herself off from love after the love of her life died five years ago. With a lot of persuading from her friends Tracy and Kim, she throws a coin into what they nicknamed the ‘love fountain’. Convinced nothing is going to happen, Faith gets a shock when men start asking her out. With a little more persuading, she goes on dates in a bid to find Mr Right.

What I love about Rich Amooi’s books is the array of supporting quirky characters like Bumper, Noah’s accident prone dog or serial dater Gertrude who only ever goes on a date with a man once.

And of course I loved the happy ending, which I’m a massive sucker for!

I felt there was a more serious tone to this novel than the previous ones I’ve read by Mr Amooi, maybe as it dealt with the death of a loved one and the grief that comes with it.

I’d recommend if you’re looking for a bit of an escape from this weird world then you can’t go wrong with It’s Raining Men.

#BookReview Suddenly Single by Carol Wyer

Title: Suddenly Single by Carol Wyer

Publisher: Canelo

Date Published: 8th April 2019

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

Sometimes a change of scene is necessary to write the next scene…

When bestselling romance author Chloe Piper’s marriage implodes a week before Christmas, she flees her cheating ex and the village gossips for the solitude of the newly built Sunny Meadow Farm and the company of her hapless dog, Ronnie.

But Chloe is soon pushed out of her comfort zone. Because with a lively development building crew – headed up by charming Alex – and a larger-than-life neighbour determined to make Chloe’s love life her pet project, Chloe finds herself in a whole new world of chaos…

This enthralling romantic comedy of self-discovery and new beginnings is perfect for fans of Kirsty Greenwood, Colleen Coleman and Marian Keyes.

Review:

I want to thank Canelo for providing me with a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So I read a fab review back in July over at Zooloo’s Book Diary (you can read it here) and I remembered I too had a copy of this but it’s taken me until now to read it due to the worst reading slump I think I’ve ever had. As they say better late than never!

Chloe Piper is the unlikely author of a racy bestseller. She escapes from a cheating husband to settle in a converted farmhouse for what she thinks is some peace to work on her second novel. Unfortunately, writer’s block is getting the better of her.

After a drunken night she signs up to a Singleton club run by her neighbours, Eleanor and Fairfax. The thought of going to the events terrifies her as her low self-esteem and social anxiety cripples her. Will she get out of her comfort zone and find the man she deserves?

Suddenly Single is one of those fun light hearted reads but it also covers the serious topic of mental health, specifically social anxiety.

I really liked Chloe, I just warmed to her immediately. It was a real treat to watch her grow and believe in herself as the story progressed. I also loved her cheeky dog Ronnie, he stole the show occasionally through the story!

I have to say I may not be single, but I’d love to go to the singletons club! They had so many fun events scattered throughout the novel I’d love to try! Of course, Coronavirus would prevent most of them now, but it was nice to live vicariously through the characters for a while.

I wished there was a little more humour, probably a lot of it went over my head, but that’s just my opinion!

If you’re looking for a bit of escapism from the way the world is right now, I’d highly recommend Suddenly Single!
