Date Published: 31st May 2019

Genre: Romantic Comedy/Chicklit

Description:

After a shocking confrontation with an unexpected encounter, Constance tries to piece her life back together and is on a mission to finally move on.

The thought of having her friends near is comforting as they take time out of their busy online lives and meet up at their favourite place, A Cupful of Dreams Café. Everyone seems happy enough until cracks begin to show and all is not as good as it seems. Constance tries desperately to keep positive as there’s so much to look forward to: shopping for posh frocks, dinner at The Shard and a movie premiere.

As things start to look rosy, a few odd tweets begin to pop up from nowhere. At first, they seem innocent, but as the weeks go by and premier night draws near, not only do the tweets increase but they become more obnoxious.

By the time Constance and her chums arrive on the red carpet, she’s determined to work out who the troll could be and to keep them from spoiling her evening. However as Constance soon learns, the troll wants to destroy far more than that!

Breathtaking views of London.

Posh frocks and Paparazzi

But there’s definitely trouble in the air …

Review:

I really enjoyed the first book of this series Retriever of Souls (you can read my review here) which I would highly recommend reading before this one just to get a fuller picture of the characters.

Wow, Children in Chains is dark, disturbing yet utterly gripping! I just could not get enough, I read it in just two sittings.

Paolo faces one of his toughest cases involving child prostitution and a community too scared to speak out against the ruthless criminals who are running it. His personal life is a bit of a shambles, with his ex wife at his throat and his daughter Katy still suffering from the events that happened at the end of the last book. To make matters worse, cracks are starting to show in his once efficient team.

A little warning this is a book about child sex trafficking, with children as young as six or seven, it is handled by the author in a sensitive way but some readers may finding it upsetting. It personally made me feel so angry that this still happens around the world in this day and age.

Again I have a little of the same gripe I had with the first book, which was the fact I had the main bad guy pegged from quite early on but it really shows how fantastic Lorraine Mace’s writing is that I read to the end without wanting to put it down.

Children in Chains will stay with me long after I’ve read it. Happily there is another in the series, Injections of Insanity, which I can’t wait to get stuck into.

Title: A Little Hotel in Cornwall by Laura Briggs

Publication Date: 30th April 2019

Genre: Romance/Chicklit

Description:

Struggling American waitress and aspiring novelist Maisie Clark dreams of becoming a full-time writer — even though in real life she’s just lost her chance at an exclusive writer’s mentorship program that would give her novel its big break. Desperate, she decides to take a chance and ask her favourite writer, a celebrated but reclusive English novelist, to help her find a second chance.

When she receives the author’s reply in an envelope with a Cornish postmark, Maisie decides not to take the writer’s half-hearted ‘no’ for an answer. With nothing to lose, she takes off for the author’s last known location, a beautiful hotel on Cornwall’s western coast. But when the hotel mistakes her for the latest applicant for a maid’s position, Maisie finds herself given an opportunity too good to lose … and a chance for a summer adventure far bigger than she ever imagined.

Surrounded by breathtaking Cornwall and working in an elegant hotel, Maisie’s world becomes one of secret identities, quirky friends, and unintentional mishaps — and despite reminders of past relationship disasters, a certain handsome, charming local resident Sidney Daniels has her conflicted about her heart’s desires, too.

#BlogTour #Review A Heart In The Right Place by Heide Goody and Iain Grant @HeideGoody @IainMGrant @rararesources

Today I have review of A Heart In The Right Place and a giveaway to win a Moleskine Passion Traveller’s Journal (see bottom of post) but first a bit about the book:

a heart kindle cover

Title: A Heart In The Right Place by Heide Goody and Iain Grant

Publisher: Pigeon Park Press

Date Published: 30th November 2018

Genre: Horror/Black Comedy

Description:

All Nick wants to do is take his dying father for a perfect father-son weekend in the Scottish Highlands. It’s not much to ask, is it? A log cabin, a roaring fire, a bottle of fine whisky and two days to paper over the cracks in their relationship.

However, Nick didn’t plan on making the trip with a dead neighbour in the back of his car. Or the neighbour’s dog. He really didn’t plan on being pursued by a psychotic female assassin intent on collecting body parts. And he really, really didn’t plan on encountering a platoon of heavily armed mercenaries, or some very hungry boars, or a werewolf.

A Heart in the Right Place – a horror comedy about setting out with the very best intentions and then messing everything up.

Review:

This is one of the most unusual books I’ve read for a long time!

Nick wants his weekend in Scotland with his father to be perfect, after all it could be his last but a missed parcel leads to a case of mistaken identity and a crazy killer on his tail.

Nick is a lovable and slightly dopey character, who trying to do the right thing always ends up messing up. There is some good back and forth between him and his dad Tony, a solid and straight laced person, almost the opposite of his son.

On the other hand we have Finn. A psychopathic assassin who’s enjoys torture a little too much and is a bit offensive. She may not be all that likeable but I couldn’t help being fascinated by her.

Now the storyline is a little out there but personally I didn’t mind that. What I did mind was the use of Liverpudlian stereotypes which I haven’t heard since I was a child,.i.e. leaving your car for too long and it’ll end up on bricks *rolls eyes*

I will also warn you there’s a few gruesome and uncomfortable scenes that may not be suitable if you have a bit of a sensitive stomach.

Heart In The Right Place is a quirky read full of black humour and off-the-wall characters.

Review:

So I’m breaking out of my comfort zone today with a bit of romance fiction! I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on the tour and HarperImpulse for a copy of this lovely book.

Felicity ‘Flick’ Simons is fed up with her life in London, her boyfriend had just moved out and her job no longer brings her the joy it used to, so when the sad news of her grandmother passing reaches her she heads home to Heartcross.

She’s nervous having not been back in eight years, having she left so suddenly. There’s one person she especially she’s scared to run into her ex, who’s heart she broke all those years ago, Fergus Campbell.

She is struggling to fit back in, when a winter storm blows in the village is cut off from the outside world, the villagers must band together to save the town. But will Felicity get her happy ever after and be able to put the past behind her?

So this is very much a new to me writer and I’m glad to be starting at the beginning of a new series.

This is a sweet and heart warming story with some very emotional moments, that I won’t deny had me sniffling a little.

At it’s heart, Love Heart Lane is a love story but it also about a close knit community which I think a lot of us would love to be apart of, especially when they band together when tragedy strikes.

I have to be honest it took me a little bit of time to warm up to Felicity, just because I felt a little annoyed with the way she is constantly racked with guilt over literally everything. I just wanted to tell her not to be so hard on herself! She really grows through the book, gaining confidence and letting go of the past.

I would have like to see a bit more of the Scottish dialect in there, just because it is set in the Scottish Highlands, just to give it that bit more authenticity.

I’d recommend Love Heart Lane to anyone who loves a heart warming and emotional tale with a good helping of drama.

the uncompromising lord flint full tour banner

Q&A with Virginia Heath:

Can you tell me a little bit about your book?

The Uncompromising Lord Flint follows the unlikely love story between a dedicated agent of the crown and the suspected traitor he is tasked with escorting to London to stand trial. From the outset, Lord Flint finds Jessamine the heroine a challenge because she keeps trying to escape. To his horror, he also finds her a temptation as she whittles down is defences and gets completely under his skin. However, things take a dangerous turn when the leader of the smuggling gang she worked for sends assassins to kill her. What starts as a babysitting mission, soon turns into a life or death game of cat and mouse as Flint does everything in his power to keep the pair of them one step ahead of the cutthroats chasing them.

Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

This is going to sound weird, but I woke up one morning and the idea was in my head. I sat down, quickly wrote the first paragraph in case I forgot it and it grew from there.

If you could describe your book in one sentence what would it be?

The uncompromising Lord Flint is an enemies to lovers roller-coaster of a story.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

I’m a full-time writer, so I keep to office hours because I work best with structure. Besides, that is when my house is empty and quiet, so I get more done. I’m an early bird, so I’m normally out of bed by 6.30am and walking my dog Trevor by 7.15am. I normally do my household chores first, then a bit of admin and social media to get it all out of the way. I warm up by reading the words I wrote the previous day, editing as I go, to get myself back into the zone. Then I pretty much write all day in bursts between tea breaks or dog walks. I find the walking helps me to figure out where to go next because I am not a plotter. I see the story in my head like a film and write it as it appears. When the film slows or stops, I know it’s time for some fresh air and a change of scenery. By 4pm, the ideas stop coming so I’ve learned not to force them. If I do, invariably, I’ll have to delete that stuff the following day because it’s wrong.

If you could recommend just one book to read what would it be and why?

Ooh- tough question! If it’s somebody else’s book, then it would have to be Nomtana Sky by the great Nora Roberts. That is such a fantastic, page-turner of a book! Three separate romances, a serial killer and a twist I never saw coming. Joyous! If I’m recommending one of my books to somebody who has never read me before, then it would have to be The Discerning Gentleman’s Guide. That’s me at my witty, nerdy history, romantic best.

Who are your favourite authors?

There are so many! Nora Roberts, Tessa Dare, Julie Ann Long, Sabrina Jeffries, Susan Mallory, Elizabeth George, Sandra Brown, Susan Elizabeth Phillips…

The list goes on and on.

Tell me something interesting about yourself (that’s not in your author bio!)

Before I wrote for a living, I was a History teacher but despite my life-long love of history, I avoided historical romances. I read my first in 2011 and fell in love. Only a few years later and I was writing them!

What are you currently working on?

I’ve just started a new Regency romcom trilogy- The Merriwell Sisters- about three impoverished sisters named after Roman goddesses. The first book is the eldest Minerva’s story, and takes place in the lead up to Christmas when she finds herself in the unlikely position of being paid to pose as a scandalous earl’s fake fiancée…

About The Author:

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in herthe unc -virginia(10) small head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

Sure, Luke Jenkins has got looks, charm, and muscular legs, but this is business, pure and simple. Things are fine and dandy until she finds out he’s a real cowboy, not an actor. Review:

This is my first Rich Amooi book but it certainly won’t be my last! This really was a fun and food filled romcom with a good dose of humour.

There’s Something About A Cowboy came at the perfect time for me, as I’m suffering from a bit of winter fatigue, you know the days are short and dull and the nights are long and freezing, it’s easy to feel miserable but this book certainly cheered me up.

I’m going to admit something now, I’ve never read a book with a cowboy in it, ever! They’ve never really appealed to my but when I read the synopsis for this and saw the colourful and fun cover I had to read it (even though I’m meant to be taking a break from blog tours).

Amy is a great character, independent, clever and headstrong. Mix that with Luke who has the three Cs, charming, confident and cocky, well sparks are bound to fly!

Another thing I liked was Amy wasn’t the usual twenty to thirty year old heroine, she’s forty five and Luke is actually younger than her which made a change. My only real issue with the characters, was Luke seemed a bit too perfect, I would have liked to see him have a few more flaws.

It does follow the traditional romantic comedy storyline but Rich Amooi really makes it his own, with plenty of humour and a little swearing (shout out to the bull called Dip S**t, it made me giggle so much).

I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a great romantic comedy, perfect to banish those winter blues!
