Title: If You Love Me I’m Yours by Lizzie Chantree

Publisher: Crooked Cat Books

Date Published: 9th July 2018

Genre: Humour

Description:

If you love me, I’m yours…’

Maud didn’t mind being boring, not really. She had a sensible job, clothes, and love life… if you counted an overbearing ex who had thanked her, rolled over and was snoring before she even realised he’d begun! She could tolerate not fulfilling her dreams, if her parents would pay her one compliment about the only thing she was passionate about in life: her art.

Dot should have fit in with her flamboyant and slightly eccentric family of talented artists, but somehow, she was an anomaly who couldn’t paint. She tried hard to be part of their world by becoming an art agent extraordinaire, but she dreamed of finding her own voice.

Dot’s brother Nate, a smoulderingly sexy and famous artist, was adored by everyone. His creative talent left them in awe of his ability to capture such passion on canvas. Women worshipped him, and even Dot’s friend Maud flushed and bumped into things when he walked into a room, but a tragic event in his past had left him emotionally and physically scarred, and reluctant to face the world again.

Someone was leaving exquisite little paintings on park benches, with a tag saying, ‘If you love me, I’m yours’. The art was so fresh and cutting-edge, that it generated a media frenzy and a scramble to discover where the mystery artist could be hiding. The revelation of who the prodigious artist was interlinked Maud, Dot and Nate’s lives forever, but their worlds came crashing down.

Were bonds of friendship, love and loyalty strong enough to withstand fame, success and scandal?

Guest Post – 3 fun facts about Lizzie’s writing habits:

1. I always write the first 20,000 words of my books by hand, in A4 lined notebooks. I find it really creative to write this way, although it does take me a while to decipher my messy handwriting as I write very quickly.

2. I really enjoy writing outside, especially if there is a view of the sea or mountains. If there happens to be tea and cake nearby, then that is an added bonus! I write in my car, on trains, at after school clubs, in cafe’s and on the beach.

3. I usually have my next book idea and characters already in my hear while I am writing my latest book.

Frequently Asked Questions by Faith Martin:

Where do you get your ideas from?

It would be nice if ideas came to me in my dreams, then all I’d have to do in the morning is jot them down and hey presto! Alas, this has never yet happened. So, whenever I approach any murder mystery, I start with the basic facts – ie, ‘A’ murders ‘B’ because of ‘C’. I then invent other motives for other characters, chose my murder method, and then add in clues. When you pick up a book as reader, you begin with chapter one and are then, step-by-step, taken further and deeper in the story until you come to the denouement at the end. In other words, you start on the outside of the spider’s web, and work your way to the centre. But as a writer, I start from the central core and work outwards!
What made you decide to write your first book?

I trained as a secretary, but when I was only 19, my parents had a very bad car accident that left them partially disabled. After a few years, it became clear that they needed some long-term help, so I left my secretarial job, and stayed at home as a carer. But I needed something else to do – and since I had always been a creative sort, and had always loved reading books, I decided to try and write one for myself. (As you do!) I started writing romance first, and as MAXINE BARRY was lucky enough to have my first book published by Orion. I then later decided to turn to crime! And now the lovely Jasper Joffe has been kind enough to fight DI Hillary Greene’s corner.
Who do you like to read when you’re not writing a book yourself?

I love reading authors from around the world, and read anything crime-related, except horror (too chicken!) There are some great Scandinavian authors around at the moment (especially in the noir genre), but also some marvellous African and Australian authors. But my very favourites are still golden age authors. At the moment, for instance, I’m reading a Rex Stout novel. But I’ve also ordered from my local library as many copies of the British Library Classic Crime series as I can find. Everyone knows the famous authors, of course, but that era produced some writers who are totally unknown now, but who deserve a renaissance.
What do you like most about being a writer?

There are so many things, it’s hard to put them in any order. I love getting letters from readers, thanking me for a book that they’ve just enjoyed reading, for instance. That always makes my day. And when the postman comes with my complimentary copies from my publisher. There’s something about getting my hands on my newly released novel for the first time that’s absolutely wonderful. And the satisfaction of typing in THE END after months of hard work! What a relief!
What do you most dislike about being a writer?

Not much, to be honest. But being your own boss can sometimes be difficult (you can’t blame the boss when things go wrong, for instance!). And when the sun’s shining, and the dog is looking at you hopefully, it can be hard to knuckle down and finish off that bit in chapter four, when all you really want to do is head out for a ramble in the countryside instead. Also, although it sounds like an old cliché, writing can be a very lonely occupation sometimes. Not just physically – being alone in a room, without work colleagues – but mentally too. When it’s just you and a blank, unhelpful screen, you can sometimes feel as if you’re living on Mars!

About The Author:

Faith Martin has been writing for over 25 years, in four genres and under four different pen names. She was born in Oxford and sets most of her crime novels within sight of the city ofAuthor photo (1) dreaming spires. A real nature lover and afficionado of the countryside, descriptions of wildlife and native flora often find their way into her manuscripts. Right now, JOFFE BOOKS are re-issuing the DI Hillary Greene novels in new updated editions! The first 11 books in the series are available now.

Her romance novels, written under the name of Maxine Barry, are now available from Corazon Books. IMPOSTERS In PARADISE, and HEART OF FIRE are both out, and others will very quickly become available in the future.

Her first foray into writing ‘spooky’ crime, (and written under the pen name of Jessie Daniels) comes out in November 2017. THE LAVENDER LADY CASEFILE is published by Robert Hale, an imprint of Crowood Press.

As Joyce Cato, she writes more classically-inspired ‘proper’ whodunits. So, if you like an amateur sleuth, plenty of clues and red herrings, plus a baffling murder mystery to solve, these are the books for you.

Title: My Sweet Friend by Helene Leuschel

Publication Date:December 6, 2017

Genre:Contemporary Fiction/ Women’s Fiction

A Note from the Author:

Lying is a symptom shared by the most convincing, cunning and ruthless individuals such as psychopaths and narcissistic manipulators. They have an invincible sense of self-importance and an addictive urge to project an image of power and perfection at all cost which are fuelled by the rewarding tools of charm, diversion and … clever deception.

Like anything in life, whether the skill is morally laudable or not, skills require training, effort and hard work. The danger lies in the brain progressively adapting to the dishonest behaviour and the longer the lies, the harder it would seem to be able to change the conditioning of one’s sensitivity to telling the truth. The truth and nothing but the truth or at the very least the intention to do so most of the time therefore appears to be a basic requirement for any interpersonal trust.

In my new stand-alone novella, I explore the idea that when crossing the line between truth or lie too often, it becomes a curse the person is eventually unable to shed …

Synopsis:

A stand-alone novella from the author of Manipulated Lives

A perfect friend … or a perfect impostor?

Alexa is an energetic and charismatic professional and the new member of a Parisian PR company where she quickly befriends her colleagues Rosie and Jack. She brings a much-needed breath of fresh air into the office and ambitiously throws herself into her new job and friendships.

But is Alexa all she claims to be?

As her life intertwines with Rosie and Jack’s, they must all decide what separates truth from fiction. Will the stories that unfold unite or divide them? Can first impressions ever be trusted?

In this original novella, H.A. Leuschel evokes the powerful hold of appearances and what a person is prepared to do to keep up the facade. If you like thought-provoking and compelling reads with intriguing characters, My Sweet Friend is for you.

MSF High Res Cover
Excerpt:

I was brushing my teeth the next morning when Alexa called, crying over another nasty phone call from her ex. I was running late as it was but was unable to stop her barrage of insults against a man I didn’t even know the name of.

He’s driving me absolutely insane. I’ve really had enough,’ I heard her shout, the heels of her shoes clicking on the pavement. She was clearly on her way to work while I was only slipping my feet into my shoes. It had been her second frantic call that morning.

Listen. Alexa, calm down. I understand you’re upset but I’ll be late if you don’t stop.’

I’m there for you when you need me but when I’m the one in need for once, you fob me off. Great, really nice, thanks.’ She hung up, leaving me in an angry sweat. I was her polar opposite – organized and calm – but lately I felt out of kilter myself. I’d missed out on seeing my mum because, for one reason or another, Alexa managed to ambush my attention.

When I eventually rushed through the office door, Alexa was looking up at me indifferently, in deep conversation with Jack, who tapped his watch with pursed lips and raised eyebrows. I lowered my eyes, my stomach heaving with repressed fury. Alexa had crawled under my skin yet I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why and how it had all come about.

I hid in the ladies’ toilets, panic rising to my throat, and utterly lost for words. I realised that if it had been Alexa running off, I’d have made sure I was giving her moral support, coaxing her back to work. Where was she now that I needed her? Was I getting hysterical, losing the plot?
