#BlogTour #Giveaway Q&A Thread of Hope by Rachel J Bonner @rararesources @racheljbonner1

Hello lovelies! Today I have an exclusive Q&A with author Rachel J Bonner and giveaway (see bottom of the post) but first a little about the book:

Thread Front Cover

Title: Thread of Hope (choices and consequences book 2) by Rachel J Bonner

Date Published: 2nd May 2019

Genre: Fantasy/Romance

Description:

What if your secrets are so dangerous they could destroy the one you love?

Is honesty always the best policy?

Leonie may have run away but Prospero will find her. He loves her and he wants a future with her by his side whatever the consequences. Only when he does find her, he ought to tell her who he really is, outside the monastery. That’ll make her run again. Dare he risk it? But if he doesn’t tell her, someone else may…

Marriage to Prospero is what Leonie wants most and the one thing she knows she can’t have. If he found out what she was really like, what she’d been, what she’d done, he’d despise her and she couldn’t bear that. Better to leave now than live a lie – but it’s harder than she expected. If only…

Gabriel is starting to discover the secrets inherent in Leonie, secrets that not even she knows, secrets that will tear the world apart. And the secrets he is keeping are tearing him apart. How can sacrificing those he loves possibly achieve peace when everything he discovers risks the death of millions?

Q&A with Rachel J Bonner:

Can you tell me a little bit about your book?

The series is a romance, a fantasy set far in our future after the world has been decimated by a range of cataclysmic events, and some people have developed mental powers. In Strand of Faith, the first book in the series, a monk and a girl fall in love, but they both have compelling reasons to stay apart – and they make different decisions. In Thread of Hope they start to face up to the consequences of those decisions – without knowing that their actions and history will generate further world shattering consequences.

If my husband saw a book described as romance and fantasy he wouldn’t read it, but he’s really enjoyed it. He describes it as interesting characters with damaged lives finding a place in a loving and caring community.

Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

I dreamt a scene which is now towards the end of Strand of Faith. It made such an impact on me that I had to work out what led up to it, and what would come next. And then the characters took over and it turned from what I thought was one book into a series.

If you could describe your book in one sentence what would it be?

Ultimately it’s about people discovering their place in the world, lost and broken people finding love, healing, hope and redemption.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

There’s no such thing as a typical day! I work from home and juggle a range of jobs (see below!). I’ll normally aim to be at my desk working on something from about 9am to around 5pm, with a break for lunch. But that’s just an aim, and it’s very flexible; I might be out meeting a client, or something connected with voluntary work, or doing something domestic. And my husband and I try to take time out together each week, although we don’t always manage it.

If I am at my desk, I might be writing, or working on marketing and promotion. Or I could be working on one of my other contracts. Often the day will be a mixture of both, and I’ll try to make time for exercise as well. If I am writing, whether a first draft, rewrite or editing, I’ll get totally lost in it. Everything else will go by the board.

If you could recommend just one book to read what would it be and why?

The Bible (in a modern translation). Or is that cheating because it’s really 66 books? You can find almost every genre in there – romance, erotica, war, thriller, mystery, murder, suspense, psychological drama, family sagas…

Who are your favouriteauthors?

I have quite a list – some of my favourites include Neil Gaiman, Terry Prachett (Discworld), Jodi Picoult, Annette Marie (urban fantasy), Jodi Taylor (Chronicles of St Mary’s), Sarah Woodbury (After Cilmeri time travel fiction), Trisha Ashley (romance), Diane Gabaldon (Outlander), Anne McCaffery (Dragonrider series). But there are many, many more.

Is writing your only job? If not, what is your other job?

I have a whole range of ‘other jobs’ and it’s usually a juggling act between them all.

I’m a trustee at our local youth theatre, which is about reaching disabled, disadvantaged and minority group young people through theatre. I’m a financial adviser to a genealogical charity, and I’m very much involved at our local church, where I manage the sound system.

I’m also a freelance financial modeller and small business consultant and a qualified accountant. I run my own business, which means that some weeks I’m up to my eyebrows in work. I aim to work half time on average which is what gives me the flexibility both to write and to do voluntary work.

Tell me something interesting about yourself (that’s not in your author bio!)

I’ve got a master’s degree in civil engineering (that bit is in my bio), and during that course I studied for a year at Pennsylvania State University. We spent some time travelling in the local area, and I think the countryside and the Amish culture are definite influences on the Choices and Consequences series.

What are you currently working on?

Now Thread of Hope is out in the world, I’m working on the third book in the series, Weave of Love. That’s due for publication at the beginning of October, so it’s in the rewrite stage before going to my editor in a few weeks. Book 4, Cloth of Grace, which will be out next February, is in much the same place.

But I’ve also got a new book idea on the go fantasy romance again, but this time with angels – which is competing for my time, and a non-fiction book based on letters to my great grandfather…

Also as a special bonus the first in the series Strand of Faith will be on sale from the 2nd to 9th May.

Here’s a little about Strand of Faith:

A girl. A monk. An unthinkable sacrifice.

When the choice is between love and life, how can anyone decide?

In a post-apocalyptic future, a girl and a monk, both with extraordinary mental powers, have compelling reasons not to fall in love. But their choices will have consequences for the rest of the world.

After the troubles of his youth, Brother Prospero has found comfort and fulfilment in the monastery. Then he discovers something that forces him to reconsider his whole vocation. How can it possibly be right to leave a life of worship and service for human desire? And if he does leave, will the pressures from his past destroy him?

Orphaned and mistreated, Leonie has found sanctuary and safety at the Abbey. When she comes into contact with Prospero everything spirals out of her control. Everyone she’s ever loved has died. She can’t do that to him. But how can she walk away from the first place she’s truly belonged?

Abbot Gabriel is faced with an impossible choice. He can do nothing and watch the world descend into war. Or he can manipulate events and ensure peace – at the cost of two lives that he is responsible for. Is he strong enough to sacrifice those he loves?

About The Author:

Rachel J Bonner is the author of the four book Choices and Consequences series, the first of which, Strand of Faith, is due out in November 2018.

Getting a degree in engineering, followed by a career in accountancy is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in paranormal romance. Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun.

When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club. Target shooting only, honest. Nothing to worry about.

She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary. It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.

Flying By The Seat of my Knickers Full Tour Banner

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this blog tour.

I pick up this book awhile ago, because I just loved the title but unfortunately it’s been sitting on my kindle for a while now but like most things I haven’t got around to it until now.

Caity has just escaped from her controlling ex, in desperate need of money, she takes a job with her sister at her event planning business.

She jumps at the chance to go to Dublin for a week but when she gets there she gets into mishap after mishap.

Can Caity get her self confidence back and put her past behind her?

This is quite a short and fun read, which is set in Ireland, a place I’ve always wanted to visit. While at times it is light hearted, it also covers the serious topics of toxic relationships and emotional abuse.

Caity is flawed and slightly vulnerable character, who seems to have disaster after disaster. I did keep wishing something would go right for her but on the other hand I couldn’t help but giggle at some of the things that went wrong.

I have to be honest at time I felt it was hard to like Caity because she felt quite judgy towards other women yet she kind of falls at the feet of Declan when he gives her the slightest bit of encouragement…it just slightly irked me.

Overall flying by the seat of my knickers is quirky and entertaining read, perfect if you’re looking to escape from reality for a few hours.

Excerpt: Gesemni’s Conflict

For the next few days, the three of them did virtually everything together, including games, horse riding, and spear training with the First Knight, who seemed to be getting sterner and tougher on them with every lesson. The First Knight, whose given name was Jorell Boro, was famed throughout the fourteen provinces as one of the best living warriors of all time. He’d made his name fighting for the upstart Regent Okon in his war of usurpation against the High King Toloron.

After Toloron was defeated, the regent rewarded Boro with the titles of First Knight of the Crown, Protector of the House of the First Prince, and the moniker “the Bloodless Death,” because supposedly his bladed spear could kill a person so quickly and with such precision that they would be dead before any blood was even visible.

Okon, along with the ruling conclave, also granted a treaty to Pala Jorell’s home kingdom of East Rhydor, including a guarantee that no Numerian troops would invade as long as the East Rhydor king or his son, the prince, were in power.

The First Prince had asked Pala Jorell to begin instructing Zadeemo in the ways of knighthood, and also Gesemni himself, most likely reasoning that Zadeemo would need a sparring partner when the First Prince was absent.

The First Knight had been reluctant to train a “commoner” in the higher arts of warfare but, at the insistence of both the First Prince and Zadeemo, had relented. Still, one could tell he took The Onyx Crown -26- great pains to make sure that Zadeemo understood some of the finer points of the moves he instructed, while not deigning to help Gesi.

Luckily for Gesi, he had tremendous aptitude and seemingly a womb-borne comprehension of instinctual combat. As such, he rarely needed the extra tutoring that Zadeemo couldn’t seem to do without. On this day, the two of them were instructed for quite some time on hand-spear counters, an ancient method of grappling that involved an unarmed warrior wresting the control of spears and other long objects away from their adversary. It was an extremely rough and unpolished method of fighting, and the First Knight took the better part of the morning explaining it to them.

Finally, the paladin suggested they work the puzzling elements out with a few rounds of sparring. Boro handed him a bladed spear and marked out a circle four en-yawo in diameter with his carving knife. Zadeemo was given a pair of lyocell gloves, which felt like silk but were made from the toughest fibers in existence. These were to be used to protect his hands from blade cuts.

Gesi shifted nervously. Always when they’d fought before they’d both been armed. Oddly, there’s a certain amount of safety involved when two weapons compete against each other. But with Zadeemo being unarmed, Gesi felt he’d have to be very careful. He was also very conscious of Zoe sitting on her tilbury, watching them both amusedly.

Engage!” The First Knight’s voice rang out through the square as the boys stepped into the circle. Zadeemo immediately lowered his stance, thrusting the heel of his boot inside Gesi’s left calf to disrupt his balance, simultaneously snatching at the bladed spear handle.

Shuffle-stepping to counter, Gesi twisted the blade ninety degrees, forcing Zadeemo to withdraw his hands. He knew he was supposed to be nothing more than a punching target for Zadeemo, but in situations like this, his stubborn, competitive imoya always got in the way of things, and yes…he also wanted to show off a bit in front of Zoe.

Surprisingly, Zadeemo must’ve anticipated his counter because he nimbly moved to his left, crashing his knee into Gesi’s right thigh and causing him to grimace. Ducking underneath the spear, Zadeemo swung his right elbow fiercely into Gesi’s solar plexus. The few servants and townspeople who were looking on cheered loudly, including Zoe.

At that second, he felt like he was going to black out. Zadeemo may have been slower than a stuck rhino, but he had strength far beyond what most twelve-year-olds could muster.

Instinctively, he twisted his bladed spear to block the next grasping move he felt was coming, slid his left knee under Zadeemo’s right, and reverse-swung the spear in a sweeping arc toward Zadeemo’s chest. The cheering stopped, followed by a deathly silence as Zadeemo crashed down to the dirt awkwardly. Everyone was staring at Gesi. Some looked angry, some fearful, some puzzled. Even he didn’t know how he’d won.

Fox Halt Farm Full Tour Banner

Q&A with Celia Moore:

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your book?

My novel is a dramatic romantic saga set over two decades. The fictional Fox Halt Farm has its warm beating heart on a small dairy farm on the edge of Dartmoor. The story starts in 1986, when Billy May is eighteen and her family farm is struggling to survive. Richard MarcFenn heads up a thriving multinational business in London. Their unexpected meeting leads to consequences for Billy and Richard, their families and their friends. This is a love story with a cast of intriguing individuals all enmeshed in each other’s lives.

Q: Where did the inspiration for Fox Halt Farm come from?

My parents sold their dairy herd when I was just four years old, and as I grew up, I witnessed many of the neighbouring farmers forced to sell up too. My novel came out of a need to reflect on my life so far, especially the bond I feel for Devon. I have worked in jobs as diverse as a chartered surveyor in London, to a climbing instructor and mountain leader in North Wales. I took my life experiences to create a sweeping saga inspired by a dream that wouldn’t go away – I saw four very different characters in a particular situation, and Fox Halt Farm was the tale of how they came to be together.

fox halt pic 1

Q: Could you describe your book in one sentence?

Fox Halt Farm is a far-reaching story of love, families, heartbreak and secrets.

Q: What is a typical writing day for you?

There isn’t a typical day for me, in the summer months, I garden full-time for customers but from late December to the end of February, I concentrate on writing. Starting at 8:30am, and stopping when I have to, often finishing at 11pm. I am passionate about my writing and become wholly engrossed in it. Every minute I can, I write. My workstation is in the kitchen so I am still part of family life.

Q: If you could recommend one book what would it be and why?

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Ablom. It is a wonderful book emphasising to me how precious life is, and how important the people you love are. Beautifully written with heartfelt words.

Q: Who are your favourite authors?

Ann Cleeves for her characters. Maeve Binchy for her exploration of family dynamics, and Jilly Cooper mostly for the descriptions of the worlds her characters inhabit.

Q: Tell me something interesting about you?

I spent 5 wonderful months in 2002 cycling around the whole of New Zealand on the back of a tandem bike. My fellow rider lost 2 stone in weight during our trip, whereas I lost nothing, I was obviously not pedalling quite so hard!

fox halt pic 2

Q: What are you currently working on?

I am currently putting the finishing touches to Culmfield Cuckoo, the sequel to Fox Halt Farm before its release on 20th March.

About The Author:

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and Crooked Cat Books for providing me with a copy of this fabulous book.

Back in Dulwich with Beth, her son Ben is on the cusp of an important interview at the prestigious Wyatt’s, which will determine whether he will be starting there in year seven but of course Beth has something to distract her, by stumbling across a dead body with a dog sitting next to it!

The dead man turns out to be artist Mark Smeaton, who didn’t seem to have an enemy in the world. Roping in her reluctant friend Katie, she dives head first into the mystery.

Another fun and entertaining cosy mystery from Alice Castle!

I make no secret I’m a huge fan of this series, having read the first four, so when I knew the fifth one was coming out, I knew I had to read it! It can easily be read as a standalone but I’d recommend starting with the first Death In Dulwich if you want to get to know the characters a bit better.

So the last book wasn’t my favourite but I felt this one Beth was back to her best, nosing into a mystery while DI Harry York fumes and wishes she’d stop putting herself in danger.

I really enjoyed seeing a different side to Beth’s friend Katie in this book. Usually so put together and effortless, but that’s all shattered by a very naughty puppy called Teddy, who seems like a tornado of fluff wrecking everything (and eating) in sight.

An honourable mention goes to Colin the Labrador for a) being called Colin and b) just sounding adorable and being the complete opposite of Teddy.

I also cheered when the dishy DI Harry York was featured a bit more, whom, I have to say I have a little literary crush on.

I’d recommend Revenge on the Rye to anyone who likes a classic style whodunnit, with well drawn characters and a sprinkling of humour.

#BlogTour #Review A Heart In The Right Place by Heide Goody and Iain Grant @HeideGoody @IainMGrant @rararesources

Today I have review of A Heart In The Right Place and a giveaway to win a Moleskine Passion Traveller’s Journal (see bottom of post) but first a bit about the book:

a heart kindle cover

Title: A Heart In The Right Place by Heide Goody and Iain Grant

Publisher: Pigeon Park Press

Date Published: 30th November 2018

Genre: Horror/Black Comedy

Description:

All Nick wants to do is take his dying father for a perfect father-son weekend in the Scottish Highlands. It’s not much to ask, is it? A log cabin, a roaring fire, a bottle of fine whisky and two days to paper over the cracks in their relationship.

However, Nick didn’t plan on making the trip with a dead neighbour in the back of his car. Or the neighbour’s dog. He really didn’t plan on being pursued by a psychotic female assassin intent on collecting body parts. And he really, really didn’t plan on encountering a platoon of heavily armed mercenaries, or some very hungry boars, or a werewolf.

A Heart in the Right Place – a horror comedy about setting out with the very best intentions and then messing everything up.

Review:

This is one of the most unusual books I’ve read for a long time!

Nick wants his weekend in Scotland with his father to be perfect, after all it could be his last but a missed parcel leads to a case of mistaken identity and a crazy killer on his tail.

Nick is a lovable and slightly dopey character, who trying to do the right thing always ends up messing up. There is some good back and forth between him and his dad Tony, a solid and straight laced person, almost the opposite of his son.

On the other hand we have Finn. A psychopathic assassin who’s enjoys torture a little too much and is a bit offensive. She may not be all that likeable but I couldn’t help being fascinated by her.

Now the storyline is a little out there but personally I didn’t mind that. What I did mind was the use of Liverpudlian stereotypes which I haven’t heard since I was a child,.i.e. leaving your car for too long and it’ll end up on bricks *rolls eyes*

I will also warn you there’s a few gruesome and uncomfortable scenes that may not be suitable if you have a bit of a sensitive stomach.

Heart In The Right Place is a quirky read full of black humour and off-the-wall characters.
