Welcome to the blog tour for Make it a Double, a collection of humorous and gritty poetry by Randall McNair! There’s also a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card (see bottom of post)!

Title: Make it a Double

Publication Date: February 7th, 2021

Genre: Poetry/ Bar Poems/ Non-Fiction

Description:

A mug of beer. A tumbler of whiskey. Relish the results of one poet’s reflections during his never-ending journey to the bottom of his glass.

When the status quo seems overwhelmingly bleak, a shooter of something strong can lift the mood. So it’s no surprise that this tome brimming with honesty is best served alongside the hair of the dog that inspired it. And down its path through darkness toward low-key revelation, this book for adult readers inspires laughter to ease the pain and peculiarities that accompany ordinary existence.

Embracing booze as his mistress and life’s absurdities as his muse, award-winning poet Randall McNair crafts a series of evocative pictures from his routine perch on a barstool. Refusing to shy away from the lows of the human condition, his blunt words cut to the heart of everyday struggles.

If you’ve ever spent time pondering existence through a bottle, the touch of blue in McNair’s paired despair and optimism will strike a chord.

Make it a Double is the humorous second volume in the Bar Poems series of gritty verse. If you have a raw love for life, raunchy rhymes, and creative drinking, then you’ll adore Randall McNair’s unique slant on poetry.

The Fire God Tour by Michele Sims @dmichele2123 @RRBookTours1 #RRBookTours #Books

Welcome to the book tour for The Fire God Tour by Michele Sims. Read on for more details about this genre-blurring romance! There’s also a chance to win a signed copy of the book (see bottom of this post).

Title: The Fire God Tour by Michele Sims

Publication Date: May 29th, 2019

Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Magical Realism

Description:

Miles Moore is obsessed with fire. He can’t help it—it’s in his genes. He’s also the famous performer Ari, an international hip-hop sensation. There are some negatives that come with fame—death threats and life on the road among them—but there’s also a lot of good: fast cars, fast women, international travel, and more money than he can handle. When Bella Wahlberg joins his team as the chief of marketing, she seems like the antithesis of what he’s looking for, so much so that Miles dubs her Belsa the Ice Queen. It would be unprofessional for them to get together, but more than that, she’s unavailable—and deathly afraid of fire. But as they prepare for The Fire God Tour, Miles can tell something is changing. Is he ready to commit himself to one woman? Can fire and ice come together?

EACH BOOK IN THIS SAGA IS A STANDALONE STORY!

Excerpt:

Bella powered down her computer in time to see her phone buzzing with a message: the limo driver was minutes away. After locking the front door just as the driver pulled up, she waited while he parked and got out of the car to open the door.

“Thank you.” She got in and sighed, feeling torn that she had to work on her day off instead of enjoying a long hike; yet also wanting to be seen as a team player. Resolved that even though she’d agreed to do this favor for Darien, she would accomplish it as quickly as possible and get away to enjoy nature with Corey.

Traffic was light and the car arrived at the estate quicker than she expected. The butler, Mr. Curtis, dressed in a black suit with a starched white shirt, dark tie, and spit-shined black shoes, greeted her at the door. She sensed he disapproved of her casual attire as he looked her over, jutting out his chin, giving her a loud sniff.

“Good morning, Bella. Darien left instructions to take you to Miles’s bedroom to get the papers.”

She hesitated a bit but followed him as he walked up the stairs to the space regarded as off limits.

“This is quite unusual, since Mr. Moore rarely allows employees other than Parker, Darien, or myself in his personal space, but I was assured it would be okay for you to go into his private suite of rooms to search for the contracts in question.”

She was also uncomfortable being in Miles’s private space, but Darien had been frantic when he’d called. He knew NeNe would be angry if all the documents weren’t there for her review even if she was on a conference call with them and not there in person. He assured her Miles wouldn’t be at the house and he would handle any fallout if he discovered she had been in his bedroom without his permission.

“He had a date last night and planned to stay at his penthouse in the city,” Darien had assured her on the phone before she’d agreed to do him the favor.

Bella and Mr. Curtis were at the top of the stairs when she began wondering if changing her plans with Corey was such a good idea. She liked the hardware store entrepreneur and was glad things were working out between them. He seemed okay with her work obligations in general, but she shrugged at the gnawing idea that Corey might not be okay with anything out of the ordinary at AriMusic, especially if it involved close collaborations with its CEO.

Mr. Curtis opened the door to the bedroom, and she took in the view of the massive mahogany bed, with etches of rams carved into the posts. Tastefully decorated, the room had touches of black and bold red accents. There was a very masculine feel to the room.

Looking around, she discovered his desk with papers on top of it. What piqued her curiosity was the old-style lamp filled with oil next to an ornate candle on his desk.  She began looking for the papers Darien had asked her to find and didn’t notice the bathroom door opening or the presence of someone else in the room.

“What the—” The loud verbal bomb startled her, causing her to spin around and throw the papers in the air.

Miles abruptly cut off the f-bomb and stood still, a few feet away from her, while she froze as she viewed his nude body. She knew he had a great one, but she’d never imagined she would meet Adonis in this lifetime. His beautiful pecs, six-pack abs, and his.. oh my, made her gasp. His thick muscular legs had her face feeling hot and her heart racing.

“Why are you here, Bella?” He initially made no effort to cover himself.

The papers scattered across the floor, blown by the air currents from the ceiling fan whirling above. “Darien asked for a favor, and he said you wouldn’t be at home. He needed these papers for a meeting later today,” she stammered and tried but couldn’t hide her tremulous voice or the shaking of her hands as she tried to gather the papers.

Breaking her stare, embarrassed by the impropriety of their meeting, she knelt to pick up the papers scattered throughout the room.

A rainy night. A slick road. A car crash.

‘A puff of yellow dust blew from the vent, and the car filled with a strong sulfur smell. Laughter whispered through the speakers, then blared at full volume.’

Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi @RichAmooi @rararesources #BlogTour #BookReview

Hello lovelies and happy Easter to those who celebrate! (See bottom of the post)

Title: Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi

Date Published: 25th March 2021

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

A sweet romantic comedy set in beautiful Napa Valley!

Ivy needs a miracle and a drink—not necessarily in that order. With a struggling winery, the only hope of keeping her dream alive is snagging a gold medal at the annual wine competition. She’s determined to win, but she can do it without the help of Ted Jacobs, aka Mr. Know-it-All.

Ted wants to catch lightning in a bottle and create the world’s greatest wine, but he’s smart enough to know he can’t do it alone. When he heads to Napa to keep his grandma from ending up in jail (don’t ask), he meets Ivy. She’s as complex and intoxicating as his award-winning cabernet, but as stubborn as the mule next door when she stomps on his offer to collaborate.

Ted knows it’s risky to mix business with pleasure, but if Ivy would only listen, they might just be the toast of the town.

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and the author for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Whenever I hear Rich Amooi has a new book coming out, I know it’s going be a must read.  I’m so glad I read this when I did as March was a particularly hard month for me and Uncork My Love helped to take my mind off things.

Rich Amooi takes the trope of rivals to romance and makes it his own with his trademark humour and sweet romance.

Ted and Ivy are such delightful characters. Ivy is fierce and independent, not willing to take help from anybody, especially Ted. Then there’s too honest for his own good Ted, who seems to keep rubbing Ivy up the wrong way. I absolutely loved the verbal sparring between Ivy and Ted, which was so much fun to read.

A special shout out goes to meddling grandmothers Loretta and Sherry who may be in their seventies but it doesn’t stop them getting up to mischief, especially when it comes to their grandchildren!

There was some excellent research about wine making which shines through but also doesn’t get too info dumpy or technical. It even made me interested in wine and I don’t even drink the stuff!

Uncork my love is a pitch perfect romcom that will make you a little love drunk after reading it! (Had to get some sort of drinking pun in there!)

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and Rich Amooi for providing me with a copy of It’s Raining Men in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a huge fan of Rich Amooi’s rom coms so when I hear he has a new one coming out, I know I have to read it.

It’s Raining Men is a sweet romance all about hope and taking chances.

Faith has shut herself off from love after the love of her life died five years ago. With a lot of persuading from her friends Tracy and Kim, she throws a coin into what they nicknamed the ‘love fountain’. Convinced nothing is going to happen, Faith gets a shock when men start asking her out. With a little more persuading, she goes on dates in a bid to find Mr Right.

What I love about Rich Amooi’s books is the array of supporting quirky characters like Bumper, Noah’s accident prone dog or serial dater Gertrude who only ever goes on a date with a man once.

And of course I loved the happy ending, which I’m a massive sucker for!

I felt there was a more serious tone to this novel than the previous ones I’ve read by Mr Amooi, maybe as it dealt with the death of a loved one and the grief that comes with it.

I’d recommend if you’re looking for a bit of an escape from this weird world then you can’t go wrong with It’s Raining Men.

Today, as part of the blog tour, I not only have my review of This Side of death by Andrew Barrett but I have a UK giveaway to win a paperback copy of the book (see bottom of the post) but first a little about the novel:

Title: This Side Of Death by Andrew Barrett

Date Published: 14th August 2020

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Description:

This Side of Death. When the past comes back to hunt you.

Alex Sheridan believes the only way she can be free of her demons is to kill the men in her life. She has a list, and Crime Scene Investigator Eddie Collins is on it.

Death misses Eddie by inches, and Alex is locked away in Juniper Hill high-security hospital.

Everything is fine for Eddie until one day four years later, when Alex escapes. This time she’s better prepared.

The week that follows ruptures Eddie’s life and shatters the belief he had in his own past, leaving him wondering what really happened, and facing one stark choice: who to kill and who to save.

This Side of Death is the most revealing CSI Eddie Collins novel to date. Prepare to see inside his past and understand what makes him the angriest, most feared, and yet most respected CSI in England.

If you like fast-paced and gripping crime thrillers with a strong forensic element, you’ll love Andrew Barrett’s This Side of Death. It will appeal to fans of Kathy Reichs, Robert Bryndza and Angela Marsons.

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and the author for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

So this is the sixth in the Eddie Collins series and can easily be read as a standalone, something I can attest to having not read the previous books in the series.

Eddie’s ex-girlfriend Alex has escaped from a mental hospital and she has one goal in mind, kill Eddie. She failed once but will she succeed a second time?

This side of death is a story about your past not only coming back to haunt you but hunt you down and make you suffer.

What really drew me to this book was the fact it was like a police procedural but told from a CSI perspective, which having loved the TV show CSI, I could help being intrigued.

The story is told mostly from Eddie and Alex’s POVs, really getting inside the character’s minds. I’m still not entirely sure whether I like Eddie all that much, he’s rude, grumpy and genuinely unpleasant most of the time but we do find out why he behaves like that through his history and there are a few occasions throughout the story where you do see his kinder side.

I will warn you there’s a few gruesome scenes/murders that are definitely not for the faint of heart.

This side of death is dark, at times a little twisted, with a good few shocks and surprises along the way.

About The Author:

Andrew Barrett became a CSI in 1996, and finished his first crime thriller, A Long Time Dead in 1997. Two more books completed the SOCO Roger Conniston trilogy.

Andrew still produces authentic crime thrillers with a forensic flavour. He’s known for his lead character, CSI Eddie Collins, and the acerbic way in which he roots out criminals. Eddie’s series is five books and three novellas in length.

Andrew is a proud Yorkshireman and sets all of his novels in Leeds.

In the tumultuous days following 9/11, Spencer Lee Kavanagh works as a security professional, juggling jobs, relationships, and his writing craft while trying to figure out where his life is headed. A workplace accident caused by Kavanagh results in Neshar’s death. Freshly arrived in the afterlife, Neshar strikes a deal with Allah. He goes back in time as a djinni so that he can haunt Kavanagh and thereby alter the course of events that led to his untimely death; only, Neshar isn’t much good at it. Excerpt:

No sooner than I passed the edge of my building the lights came on atop a half-dozen cameras. Reporters jostled to stick their microphones in my face. As they blasted me with questions, I couldn’t help thinking two things: one was that the author of the ninja book was full of shit, and the other was that he probably no ninja at all.

“How does it feel to foil the terror plot that would have killed countless commuters?”

“Care to comment on the phone call you received from Vice President Cheney?”

“There was no call,” I mumbled as I inched my way past them, keeping my head down so that the bill of the baseball cap masked most of my face.

“Mr. Kavanagh,” one of the reporters stepped in front of me. “Do you have any remorse?”

“Will you continue to work at Tiffany and Company?”

“Is it true that the city will pay to have the Atlas clock restored?”

“Are you at liberty to tell us which agency you actually work for?”

“What?” I cried. “I’m just a guy.”

“Lee, are you afraid of retaliation?”

“Will you relocate?”

“Is the government offering to put you under their protective custody?”

“What’s your position on invading Iraq?”

“Do you support our troops?”

“Were you scared that the device might have blown up while you stood over the terrorist’s body?”

I inched closer to the steps.

“Would you be willing to disclose the names of the operatives in your team?”

“Operatives?” I asked.

“Do you think Saddam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks?”

“What’s your position on immigration?”

“Did law enforcement officials disclose to you whether there are any other threats in the city?”

One of the reporters followed me up the steps to the main door. She reached out and took hold of the door handle as I inserted my key into the lock.

“Is this a safe house, Mr. Kavanagh?” she asked. “If it is, now that it’s compromised, where will you go?”

I managed to unlock the door and slip into the foyer. When I did, they kept at it with their questions. Once the door was closed behind me, the reporters banged on the door as the camera lights lit up the foyer. They filmed me checking my mailbox. For once I was grateful that there were no letters from Maggie. After I locked the mailbox, I turned to the cameras crowding the door windows. With my head down, I offered them a salute before I entered the first-floor hall.

Hello lovelies today I have a review of Just Another Silly Love Song by Rich Amooi plus a fabulous giveaway to win a $25 Amazon gift card (see bottom of post) but first a bit about the book:

Silly Love Song

Title: Just Another Silly Love Song by Rich Amooi

Date Published: 29th April 2020

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Description:

Two rival radio personalities. Lori Martin is a positive and upbeat DJ, known for playing love songs and dedications. Ben Baxter dishes out no-nonsense, in-your-face relationship advice. Total opposites. Never in a million years would they want to work together.

Fired for losing her cool after her boyfriend breaks up with her on the air, Lori surprisingly receives a job offer for the coveted morning show at the radio station across town where Ben works. She thinks she’s replacing him, but finds out they want to team up Lori with her archenemy to set the air waves on fire and boost ratings. Financially strapped, she can’t turn down the job.

While their on-air fireworks and explosive chemistry make for great listening, what in the world will happen after work hours?

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this tour and providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I really needed something that would make me smile right now and just another silly love song did just that! Genuinely people kept asking me what I was grinning at while I was reading it.

Lori is a late night radio show host who plays love songs and dedications, dishing out positivity but she finds herself in quite a pickle after she’s not only dumped on air but loses her job in the same night!

In desperate need of a job, she takes the only one available opposite the no-nonsense and brash Ben Baxter aka Dr. Tough Love. Lori thinks it’s never going to work out, they’re complete opposites but sparks begin to fly and it turns into something neither of them expected.

This book just gave me all the awws, with lovable characters, cute moments and that all important sweet ending.

I also loved Grandma Joyce, Lori’s sassy eighty year old grandmother who sounds like she’d be fun to hang out with.

Just another silly love song is a pure joy to read and I’m a little sad now I’ve finished it. I can’t wait to see what Rich Amooi comes up with next!

Hello lovelies! Today I have my review of Beyond the Yew Tree plus a giveaway to win a copy of either The Last Thing She Said or The Woman of Heachley Hall (see bottom of the post) but first a little about the book:

Beyond the Yew Tree_eb

Title: Beyond The Yew Tree by Rachel Walkley

Date Published: 27th March 2020

Genre:Ghost Story/Women’s fiction

Description:

Whispers in the courtroom.

Only one juror hears them.

Can Laura unravel the truth by the end of the trial?

In an old courtroom, a hissing voice distracts shy juror, Laura, and at night recurring nightmares transport her to a Victorian gaol and the company of a wretched woman.

Although burdened by her own secret guilt, and struggling to form meaningful relationships, Laura isn’t one to give up easily when faced with an extraordinary situation.

The child-like whispers lead Laura to an old prison graveyard, where she teams up with enthusiastic museum curator, Sean. He believes a missing manuscript is the key to understanding her haunting dreams. But nobody knows if it actually exists.

Laura is confronted with the fate of two people – the man in the dock accused of defrauding a charity for the blind, and the restless spirit of a woman hanged over a century ago for murder. If Sean is the companion she needs in her life, will he believe her when she realises that the two mysteries are converging around a long-forgotten child who only Laura can hear?

Ordinary women.

Extraordinary experiences.

Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources tour for inviting me on this tour and providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Beyond the Yew Tree is an intriguing mix of ghost story, historical fiction, mystery and romance, with even a little legal thriller action thrown in there too!

I liked the main character Laura. She’s a little blunt but honest and level headed, not the kind of person you’d think would even entertain the notion of being haunted! But she hides a secret pain in her past, a mistake that’s  troubled her for years. Sean was also a very sweet character who compliments Laura’s bluntness well.

The ghost of the story also has a compelling and tragic tale to tell, expertly woven throughout the novel.

I did find the trial aspect a little tedious at times (it was to do with fraud, not a subject I find that interesting) but that didn’t spoil my overall enjoyment of the novel.

Beyond the Yew Tree blends several genres together to make a sweet and satisfying read.
