Review:

I want to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on this blog tour and Choc Lit for providing with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

So this is actually my second Lynda Stacey book, having enjoyed The Fake Date I was looking forward to getting stuck into Keeper of Secrets.

Cassie Hunt is living her dream as an archaeologist working in Italy when she gets a call. Her beloved Aunt Aggie is extremely ill and wants to see her. She has something to tell Cassie, a secret that could blow her whole world apart, a secret buried in the catacombs in her hometown.

She enlists the help of her old university friend Noah and gets a lot more than she bargained for.

Goodness me, this brought up a lot of emotions in me, far more than I’m used to with your average mystery/thriller. Aunt Aggie had such a tragic story, I won’t lie, it almost had me in tears!

Relationships really are the main theme within the story and really were my favourite part, especially between Cassie and Aunt Aggie. I probably would recommend this if you have a love of women’s fiction/emotional stories as I feel it’s edging a little more towards that genre.

I have to be honest I did like Cassie quite as much as the protagonist in Lynda Stacey’s previous book but of course that’s just a minor issue.

Keeper of Secrets is a mystery story coupled with romance to make an emotionally taut story.

About The Author:

Lynda is a wife, step-mother and grandmother who grew up in the mining village of Bentley, Doncaster in South Yorkshire..author pic (12)

She is currently the Sales Director of a stationery office supplies and office furniture company in Doncaster, where she has worked for the past 28 years. Prior to this she’d also been a nurse, a model, an emergency first response instructor and a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor … and yes, she was crazy enough to dive in the sea with sharks, without a cage.

Following a car accident in 2008, Lynda was left with limited mobility in her right arm. Unable to dive or teach anymore, she turned to her love of writing, a hobby she’d followed avidly since being a teenager.

Her own life story, along with varied career choices, helps Lynda to create stories of romantic suspense, with challenging and unpredictable plots, along with (as in all romances) very happy endings.

She lives in a small rural hamlet near Doncaster, with her ‘hero at home husband’, Haydn, whom she’s been happily married to for over 20 years.

Lynda joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association in 2014 under the umbrella of the New Writers’ Scheme and in 2015 her debut novel House of Secrets won Choc Lit’s Search for a Star competition. Lynda writes for both Choc Lit and Ruby Fiction.

The Haunting at Paradise House Full Tour Banner

Review:

Addison wants nothing more than to be a nurse but is getting nowhere. Out of the blue she is offered a job working at Paradise House. But the moment she sets foot there strange things start to happen and she thinks there’s more to her new employers than what meets the eye.

The Haunting at Paradise House is a combination of fantastical elements with ghostly goings on, intrigue, mystery and a dash of romance added to the mix.

There’s plenty of spooky scenes, with some very creepy dolls, which made me shiver as I’m not a fan of dolls in general anyway.

I’ve read a couple of novels with reaper type characters in and I enjoyed the author’s different take on them.

I liked Addison. She is strong and more than a little stubborn with a caffeine addiction and a clingy boyfriend. Even with all the craziness going on around her, she keeps a level head.

I have to be honest, the beginning of the novel was a little confusing and I felt there were aspects that were a bit rushed but of course that’s just my opinion.

The Haunting at Paradise House is a fast paced spooky read that will capture your imagination.

About The Author:

Killian Wolf is a Miami, FL native who enjoys pirates, rum, and skulls as much as sheThe Haunting Author Photo loves writing about dark magick and sorcerers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology and Sociology and a Master of Science in Environmental Archaeology and Palaeoeconomy.

Killian writes books about obtaining magickal powers and stepping into other dimensions. She lives in England with her husband, a tornado of a cat, and the most timid snake you’d ever meet.

When she isn’t writing, you might find her at an Archaeological dig, rock climbing, or sipping on dark spiced rum while working on a painting.

#Review The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides @OrionBooks

Title: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Publisher: Orion

Date Published: 7th February 2019

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Description:

 ALICIA

Alicia Berenson writes a diary as a release, an outlet – and to prove to her beloved husband that everything is fine. She can’t bear the thought of worrying Gabriel, or causing him pain.

Until, late one evening, Alicia shoots Gabriel five times and then never speaks another word.

THEO

Forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber is convinced he can successfully treat Alicia, where all others have failed. Obsessed with investigating her crime, his discoveries suggest Alicia’s silence goes far deeper than he first thought.

And if she speaks, would he want to hear the truth?

Review:

So I feel like at the beginning of the year you couldn’t escape The Silent Patient. I know it shouldn’t but I’m always a little wary of this type of novel, just because I find them very hit or miss but with this novel, I found my worries were unwarranted.

The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller at its best, there’s plenty of mystery, intrigue and lots of suspense. I also enjoyed that it wasn’t a slow burn type of novel, you’re dropped straight into the good stuff, with a mix of first person perspective and diary entries.

Both Theo and Alicia are so well drawn, they felt almost real. I enjoyed getting inside Theo’s head, seeing his troubled past and the way his obsession with Alicia grows until…well you’ll just have to read the book to find out!

I don’t know whether this is being made into a movie or TV show but someone needs to get on that asap!

Unfortunately, I kind of figured out the ending but I still enjoyed it as it worked perfectly for the story.

The Silent Patient is a fraught, tension packed thriller, that is just a must read! I can’t wait to see what Alex Michaelides comes up with next!

About The Author:

Alex Michaelides was born in Cyprus to a Greek-Cypriot father and English mother. He read English at Cambridge University and received an MA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute. He wrote the film Devil You Know, starring Rosamund Pike, and co-wrote The Con is On, starring Uma Thurman and Tim Roth. The Silent Patient, his first novel, is a Sunday Times, New York Times, Australian and Irish bestseller.

#CoverReveal #PublicationDay The Final Trail by AA Abbott @AAAbbottstories #LoveBooksTours

Hi lovelies! Today not only do I have a fab cover reveal for The Final Trail, the last in the Trail series but also like to wish happy publication day to AA Abbott! A huge thank you to Kelly at Love Books Group for inviting me to take part.  Here’s a little about the book and the series so far:

Birmingham has well and truly been put on the crime thriller map with the success of the TV series Peaky Blinders but for bookworms amongst us the popular Trail Series has long brought readers into the modern day 21st century with its tense storylines, murder and intrigue set in and around the city.

The Trail series features a vodka business, a cancer cure and obsessive killers. Every book is a good read in its own right – each is a great crime story with terrific twists to keep the tension mounting – but together, they follow the same characters over several years.

The Trail series author AA Abbott also known as Helen Blenkinsop, has been compared with the likes of Ruth Rendell, John Grisham and Jeffrey Archer.  She lived and studied in Birmingham for nearly 20 years and her passion and love for the city became the inspiration for the Trail series.

Now, after four successful editions the last storyline will be revealed in the publication of THE FINAL TRAIL which will be launched in Birmingham on 28th October.

In the last book …”Glamorous Kat White has built a successful craft vodka brand in Birmingham, but she has an uneasy relationship with her business partner, Marty Bridges. Her mother had previously supplied with poisonous vodka. Marty doesn’t trust Kat, resents having to depend on her for commercial success, and isn’t thrilled that his eldest son wants to marry her. That’s not his biggest problem, though. He’s trying to develop a cancer drug with Kat’s brother, Erik, and it’s draining money he doesn’t have. Just as he finds an investor with pockets deep enough to fund their research, Erik is lured to the former Soviet Union and thrown into jail. Meanwhile, Ben Halloran, who killed his father to save Kat’s life, is faced with the twin risks of a murder charge and his brother’s deep-seated desire for revenge. Can Ben escape with his life and liberty? And can Marty save both Erik and his business – and learn to trust Kat?”

Helen said “I’ve been writing about these amazing characters for over 5 years, so you can imagine, they have become a part of my life. It’s been a great journey and they have come through so many storylines that it feels right for them to achieve their dreams at last.”

Most of the action in THE FINAL TRAIL takes place across the city and features the famous Rose Villa Tavern and 1,000 Trades in the Jewellery Quarter; The Mailbox, home to the BBC in Birmingham, Holloway Head by the famous Pagoda Island and locations in Harborne and Edgbaston.

Helen addedIt’s going to be very sad to launch the last book as the stories and characters have built up such a following but it will give me the opportunity to weave new and exciting tales – I have so many ideas buzzing in my head.”

THE FINALTRAIL is a perfect read for those who like a fast-paced crime thriller combined with suspense, humour and plot twists.  It’s ideal to take away on holiday and provides a great read during the autumn/winter nights.

the death and life of penny pitstop banner

Excerpt:

The sun was close to setting and the warmth of the day had departed. Claudia awoke with a shiver and flipped her head from side to side like she’d forgotten where she was.

“It’s okay. You’re in my garden. You fell asleep.”

Claudia looked at him and drunk-nodded. Ray stood up and came back out with a glass of water and passed it to her.

“Thanks.”

“De nada. When you’re ready, shall we go inside?”

Now it was Claudia’s turn to nod and a few seconds later she stood up and they wandered into the kitchen then Ray led her into the living room and they sat on the sofa, half facing each other.

“Warmer now?”

“Yes, thanks. Sorry about falling asleep on you.”

“Doesn’t matter. You needed the rest. Besides most beautiful women fall into a coma near me, so sleep was a refreshing change.”

“Oh, don’t.”

“I’m kidding.”

He touched Claudia’s knee to reassure her all was fine and Ray followed her eyes as they went from his hand to his face and back to his hand again.

“I was going to fix some food. Fancy some?”

“You don’t have to go to any trouble.”

“It was only going to be a bowl of pasta, to be honest. So don’t get your hopes up too much.”

“Pasta would be lovely.”

Claudia smiled and Ray saw her dark blue eyes as if for the first time. Intense colour. He went into the kitchen and made them dinner, opening another bottle of wine.

He laid the kitchen table and, fifteen minutes later, they were both sat eating penne with a tomato sauce, peppers and olives. Simple but tasty. The wine went well with the flavours too.

This time, as they drank and ate, Claudia got quite giggly.

“So, what does a man like you do rattling around a place like this when he’s on his own?”

“The usual stuff. Catch a bit of telly, read a magazine, watch the odd movie.”

“What kind of odd movies do you watch?”

Ray looked blankly at her, not understanding what she was getting at. Claudia giggled and poured herself another glass, then topped up Ray’s.

“Do you like adult movies?”

“That’s not really my thing.”

“Are you sure? Most men like to see naked women. Do you like to see naked women?”

“There’s nothing wrong with a naked woman, for sure.”

“Would you like to see a naked woman now?”

“Huh?”

“You heard,” she giggled, “Would you like to see me naked now?”

Before Ray could answer, Claudia stood up, knocking her chair backwards, grabbed Ray by the hand and led him back into the living room.

“Let’s dance. Put on some music for us, Ray-my-man.”

Without thinking, Ray did as he was bid and found a compilation CD to play. As soon as the first track buzzed into life, Claudia started tapping one foot and moving her hips, which encouraged Ray to try to do the same. He knew he had no rhythm and was going to massively embarrass himself, but Ray felt he had no choice. He didn’t want to upset Claudia and the way she was gyrating her body was beginning to turn him on, despite everything.

The launch of a dark, gripping, completely unputdownable crime thriller series, All His Pretty Girls introduces Albuquerque detective Alyssa Wyatt. Fans of Kendra Elliot, Melinda Leigh and Angela Marsons will be utterly engrossed.

Review:

I’m having a hard time putting into words how much I enjoyed All His Pretty Girls!

A woman is found badly beaten and barely alive after being missing for days. Detective Alyssa Wyatt is assigned to the case which she finds disturbing evidence that there might me a serial killer on the loose.

As she investigates, she unwittingly puts herself and her family in the cross hairs of a psychopathic killer. Will she find him before he gets to her first?

Wow did All His Pretty Girls pack a punch! I was shocked when I found out this was a debut, I see a bright future ahead for Charly Cox I can tell you.

When I started reading, I instantly warmed to Alyssa, even though she’s not to be messed with, especially when she hasn’t had her coffee! She’s mum to two teenagers with a loving husband but she carries around guilt and pain from something that happened in her past.

This is one of those novels which you think you know what’s going to happen then boom, there’s something completely throws you. I can’t say too much more in case of spoilers but if you love a quality police procedural you should pick this up.

All His Pretty Girls is a heart in your mouth read that will have you racing through those pages. I can’t wait for more from Charly Cox.
