Review:

I want to thank Jill Burkinshaw for inviting me on this tour and Joffe Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So this is the third in the DCI Rachel King series, it can be read as a standalone but I’d recommend at least reading the book before, Two Victims, because some of the story carries over.

A dying man is found suffocated in a nursing home, confetti scattered over him and one of his fingers severed. When his daughter comes to identify him, she’s never seen him before.

A second body is found, this time a woman but what is the link between the two? As Rachel and her team delve deeper, they find more questions than answers. Will they manage to solve the case?

Wrong Victim is a great edition to this gripping series, really I just can’t get enough of these books!

This case is definitely one of Rachel and her teams most complicated ones yet! Especially as Rachel’s personal life, yet again, threatens to spill over into her professional with the re-emergence of Jed, the love of her life, who’s also a wanted man. Rachel also has to deal with DCI Mark Keaton, someone who she’s not sure if she can trust to add yet more drama.

I really enjoyed the fact that we got to see a little more from Rachel’s team, Elwyn, Jonny and Amy. Slowly we’re getting to know them in their own right, not just lurking about in the background.

There are two intertwined storylines in the book, truthfully they did kind of blur into one at a certain point and I did lose track of what was happening but that probably says more about my memory than the novel!

Wrong Victim is a fast paced and addictive read that is a must if you love a police procedural!

I’m one of the ‘baby boomer’ generation. I was born in Edinburgh to an English father and Scottish mother. My father was from the North West of England and this was where the family settled.

I know the area well, both the good and the bad, and so I set my books here. Sitting between two counties, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and between the city and the hills, it offers a rich mix of the industrial and the countryside and all the character therein. I always planned to write crime novels — to create the characters in my books. Since my retirement from a busy teaching job in FE, this is what I’ve done — almost to exclusion of anything else!

I have a grown-up family and five grandchildren. They see me as something of an eccentric — always on my laptop writing away. Writing is something of a second career and, despite having a bus pass, keeps me busy, young and tuned in the world as it currently is.
