Date Published: 14th May 2018

Genre: Police Procedural

Description:

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new addition to the popular Detective Jason Smith series.

THE UNWORTHY MUST PAY.

DS Jason Smith is dragged away from paternity leave when a woman is killed with her baby in the next room. When more women with children are brutally murdered, Smith discovers that they all have something in common – they all share a secret. When he finds out that the mother of his own child is on this list of ‘Unworthy’ women, he finds himself in a race against time to stop the killer before his whole world comes crashing down around him.

An action packed thriller filled with the twists, turns and red herrings we expect from Stewart Giles. This is an edge of your seat page-turner that will appeal to all readers of crime fiction.

THE SETTING

York is a historic walled city in North Yorkshire, England.

At the confluence of the River Ouse and Foss, York is the traditional county town of the historic county of Yorkshire. York Minster and a variety of cultural and sporting activities make it a popular tourist destination.

THE DETECTIVES

DS Jason Smith is an Australian who was sent to York to live with his Grandmother when his sister disappeared from a beach. He has suffered many losses in his short life and is now a dedicated detective. He is a bit of a loose cannon he has his own way of doing things and that doesn’t always mean following orders and procedures.

DC Erica Witton is Jason’s preferred partner they work well together and share a bond.  She isn’t always appreciated by Jason, but they care about each other and that brings a different dimension to the series.

Always a good read. Great characters. The ending is intriguing and I’m looking forward to the next in the series to see how things develop.’ – WarrenC

Unworthy” just got better and better; I loved the twists and turns, and I didn’t want it to end.’ – There’s an App for that!

Another great story with the usual characters and much more. Read the series in order to get the best effect.Thompson V

Excellent story and characters which together give you a great read. Didn’t want to put it down once I’d started.’ – Quiet man

Review:

Smith is happily enjoying paternity leave with his new daughter Laura and girlfriend DC Erica Whitton when he’s called back in. A young woman is found brutally beaten to death in front of her baby with the word Unworthy drawn in her own blood on the window.

Less than twenty four hours later, a little boy is found wandering the streets covered in blood his mother killed in a similar way. Can Smith figure out who the killer is before they strike again?

So this is the last book before the new release The Enigma comes out combining Stewart Giles two detectives Jason Smith and Harriet Taylor which I’ve very, very excited for but I’m also a little sad as my Smith series binge has come to an end!

Wow, I have to say I think this is one of my favourites of the entire series! It is a tiny bit shorter than some of the other Smith books but wow is there a lot packed into it. Honestly there’s so many twists and turns it made my head spin!

Fatherhood seems to have made Smith mature a bit more and I’m happy to see him and Whitton still going strong but don’t worry there’s still a bit of drama between the pair to keep it interesting.

There’s a little bit of rivalry between the DC’s Bridge and Yang Chu on who will get the open detective sergeant spot which was a bit of light relief in quite an intense story.

It was also nice to see PC Baldwin getting more of a role within the book, and being drafted into Smith’s team after spending so many years manning the front desk.

Unworthy is an intense and gripping mystery with a nail biting ending which is a fantastic edition to the series. I cannot wait to read The Enigma!

About The Author:

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling SG Author photo (4)around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.
